Stop what you are doing and look at this lovely story. A photography student in the 80s took pictures of punks and mods on the street in Preston. He’s now tracked them down and photographed them again. The pictures and stories are really ❤️ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Looks like Healey's first Budget is going to be a proper marmalade-dropper. (Sorry. The thought came into my mind unbidden, and I'm not suffering alone).

You have to admit that the entire Bolsonaro family under house arrest in the same house would be a hell of a sitcom.

It feels like a parody of the current intelligence of UK political discourse that the Treasury is spending the day before the annual Budget talking up a very minor reduction in the cost of marmalade.

This story went up late on Friday and got less attention than it otherwise might have done. A sentencing hearing on Friday was told three participants in the Tory election-betting scandal - dismissed at the time as "a flutter" - would have made nearly £50,000 if undetected www.ft.com/content/510e...

Have you ever wondered what Britain's security services made of Aneurin Bevan, founder of the NHS and long one of the key figures on the Labour Party's left? Wonder no more after reading about newly released papers detailing MI5's monitoring of him: www.ft.com/content/aa6d...

For people wondering why The Canary has come to grief, I have an example. In April, I was due to cover the trial of the men eventually convicted of arson offences against then-PM Sir Keir Starmer. The trial was listed to start on April 27. But it started with two days' jury selection and legal stuff

If you're really prepared to write about an alleged conspiracy of silence without checking with the Crown Prosecution Service or the court about what's actually going on, I have limited sympathy when your business subsequently hits financial trouble.

The future of government is TikToks of Martin Lewis pointing at things we don’t like, and Andy Burnham vapourising them.

Good Lord. I haven't seen an e2 node in the wild for quite some time. Also relevant though - and declaring the interest that I work for his other think tank - Martin Lewis launched this the other week: small-ideas.org

Oh great, you've thought of a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet. Too bad it perpetuates harmful stereotypes about dogs and foxes. I hope it was worth it

In Our Friends in the North - a pinnacle of UK TV - the stockmarket crash and Great Storm are the wrong way round. We see Tosker lose his money in the crash then Eddie Wells die of a heart attack during the storm. But the storm helped to cause the crash because dealers couldn't reach their desks.

I don't like to be snotty. But Facebook has just offered me a charity "challenge" to cycle 124 miles. I looked at it, thinking, "Well, I've never ridden as much as 124 miles in a day." Turns out it's 124 miles in a month. I rode 699 miles in September just with commuting and a few leisure rides.

Heard about how the Crown Estate might end up paying Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for giving up his royal lease? We've found out today that the cost of putting right wear-and-tear has more than cancelled out the compensation he was due: as.ft.com/r/c8f16c5c-7...

I heard a friend of Jeffrey Archer say on the radio that he brought joy to everyone. That wasn't the experience of Monica Coghlan. Also, to state the obvious, that whole affair must have caused considerable pain to Mary Archer. I know we shouldn't be harsh on the recently died. But let's not pretend

I’m waiting for my annual flu vaccine and another customer at the pharmacy is complaining that on a recent visit he handed a £20 note to a woman standing by the counter thinking she was a member of staff. Turns out she wasn’t. More true crime stories as I encounter them.
