Watching the wife playing Symphony of the Night it is striking to me just how much of it is just an excuse to reuse sprites from Rondo of Blood, which was at that point a four year old game from a whole generation prior.

Hell, some of those sprites would keep being used all the way until Order of Ecclesia. They are admittedly good sprites, but talk about keeping the budget tight.
