I wrote (not vibecoded!) a VST plugin for myself that does a really basic thing I couldn't find without cruft elsewhere: x0x drum sequencer that emits MIDI, no audio, to any sampler. It's deliberately low clutter; I hate multi-track grids. I'm usually bad at UI, but quite pleased with this one.

love this :)

vauxhall has a new logo (not important) and i was checking the assets on the website (i cant stop myself i got autism) and forget the logo lets talk about the hero carousel this is incredible technology they are using here this is the greatest website thing ive seen in ages www.vauxhall.co.uk

Well, this looks fantastic! Would you even believe this is a front end for the MisterFPGA? Incredible work.

Nigel Breslaw@unintuitive.com

Still crude and early. But a million miles on from a couple of months ago. No GPU. ARM CPU that was cutting edge in 2007. But it’s surprising what you can get running on a MisterFPGA.

today i'm taking erik (music synth prototype) in a more sober direction; the code is displayed in a more traditional way, but you can set a colour for any variable, it shows where its used via color + lines, and you can edit any number as a knob.

Been following this for some time, looks stunning!

By the powers that be I hope more eyes are on jailbreaking LGs horrific TV firmware. Legislation needs to catch up quickly.

Some AI assistance helped bring the excellent paint.net to Linux - but guess what? The author got harassed by morons who have a very singular interpretation of AI, almost like implying driving any electric car means you're a fan of Elon Musk. Looking forward to auto blocklist notifications now.

Alright everyone, message received. I was not expecting this response, I honestly had no idea before I made the post Like I said, the code is experimental. A proof of concept showing that PDN-on-WINE is possible. It's not finished. I can literally just delete it. It won't be part of the next build.

I love this!

was thinking about tape loops and wondered about some kind of literal canvas with a kind of celluloidy aesthetic where you could literally wind sounds around and then place playheads to pick them up. not sure. do the waveforms roll along the tape? maybe. looks pretty anyway

Put a ZX Spectrum emulator on the Waveshare AMOLED 1.8 RP2350 Dev board, pretty sweet! A ZX Spectrum in your pocket! 💫

I've always been curious about multi-head / multi-seat configurations - why not allow multiple users use a single PC desktop session simultaneously? The last time I saw this was two player Lemmings on the Amiga..! Find out what's possible with Wayland here: blinry.org/multi-seat-w...

blinry.orgState of multi-player WaylandI've been fascinated by the idea of attaching multiple mice to one computer, and then having multiple mouse cursors inside of one desktop environment!

I've come to quite like Paged Out! Computing, Digital Art, Programming, Science, Security and everything in between. Well worth a read.

I really hope Ridge Racer 6 ends up playable on Windows via Microsoft's Fission (XeO3) Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility solution at some point. It's okay in Xenia but lots of Z-fighting in scenery and the rendering is a bit off. The game is 20 years old, here's hoping! cc: @dark1x.bsky.social

It'd be cool if Steam supported tiered storage, where unused games would be automatically moved to lower performance drives and vice versa, but also mindful of the demands of a game, so older titles could stay on low performance drives if they still ran well. Considering the price hikes 'n all.

Funny how Andy Burnham has only been in the office for a few days and the left and right are dumping on him already. Absolutely mental how this country self-sabotages because things don't improve overnight and people start protest voting extreme parties instead.

Who doesn’t love software rendering? Great post from Ben Houston with some source code included!

Rendering Real-Time 3D Before GPUs How I built a real-time 3D renderer on a slow 486 with only 256 colors, using fixed-point math, palette quantization, matcap-style Phong lighting, and x86 assembly. ben3d.ca/blog/renderi...

The very cool and affable @misterk.in shares his experiences at Revision 2026. (yes that's me at the start 😅).

I did this, I'm now M7RUA. Nice little skill you can get for a small amount of work. Thank you @essexham.bsky.social. :)

MyFitnessPal is such a disaster of UX. You can't just type in 18g of Cashews, you have to select from a list of Cashew entries of varying quality, then provide a proportion of a present amount, often in meaningless units. So yes, I've just had 0.634931 ounces of Cashews. Nice.

I completed Doom 2 on Ultra Violence the other day. Goodness me it was a total slog! It was okay but stupidly hard and unfair in places. Doom maps have come a long way. Legacy of Rust was awesome. Sigil is next! 👍

Wrote a test harness that let me run the decompiled game in lockstep with the Ymir emulator, validating that for the same input, the game behavior remain faithful to the original code. This checks character position, camera, collisions, and can easily add more. #panzerdragoonsaga #reverseengineering

Loving seeing how fast machine learning on audio is progressing things - great quality speech under 1kbps is real, and good quality music under 2.5kbps is a reality as well. That's a CD of music on a floppy disk...I can't believe this hasn't had more coverage! github.com/SonyCSLParis/codicodec

Before anyone asks it is GPU heavy, the weights are 600MB also; but we're already seeing device side models going mainstream so this will be the standard approach in the future as classic codec and machine learning continue to work together. Also the quality is outstanding **for the bitrate**.

I tend to fire up Doom / Doom 2 every now and then for a blast, but I thought I'd give Legacy of Rust (free with Doom & Doom II on Steam) and wow - it's fantastic. So creative and the soundtrack is an absolute delight. Honestly, give it a go if you have it (you probably do), it's mega fun.

I've been following the Xbox coverage and think Asha Sharma is doing a wicked job. Really hope Microsoft buy in on restoring the brand. Similarly for the K2 project, if they can make a concerted effort to desloppify the OS it will only help. I still appreciate all things Linux, it all helps the PC.

Well, the UK's in a prisoners dilemma stopping Reform, the vote is split between Labour and Green who in aggregate would win easily. Note: Reform voters can't speak on anything apart from migration and many voters can't articulate what Keir Starmer has done wrong apart from "nothing's changed".

I wish Emulation News YouTube channels were a bit more concise - Retro RGB and Lu's Retro Source are great but some others just pad out so much it's infuriating "Hey guys welcome back and have we got some great news in store for you, something we've all been asking for believe me..." etc.

"...and I can't believe it for myself but did you find yourself asking if they could, but low and behold without further ado, let's strap in and jump straight into what everyone's been talking about for years and it's finally here and this one takes me right back to when I was younger..." etc.

Fired up an old MacBook running Sonoma and it still had the old UI. Really cements what a mess Tahoe is. I really hope the new CEO reverts the glass mess.
