They say AI is great at writing code. I'd say it's great at writing bad code, ok at writing ok code and mostly not great at writing great code. But does it matter?

I just read that "AI Mandates are tearing companies apart" and I can believe it. You can't just mandate it as a blanket policy, the codebase needs to be restructured into smaller parts that can be black boxes so that critical components aren't affected by code generation.

Software engineering is transforming from a ubiquitous profession to a highly specialized field. Like mechanical engineering post-industrial revolution, SW eng will shift from ad-hoc practitioners to a small elite, while AI handles 99% of routine coding. blog.patchwork.dev/the-hidden-p...

blog.patchwork.devThe Hidden Pattern: What Mechanical Engineering’s Past Tells Us About Software’s FutureBehind-the-scenes, software development is undergoing a radical shift, and a clear pattern is emerging that shows exactly what’s next for the tech industry.

Prediction: Just like how you don’t need to be a mechanical engineer to work on a car, you won’t need to be a software engineer to work on software.

I'm currently making what I hope to be one of the most useful apps in the world. Right now it looks like we are going to use base for the blockchain. Why crypto? Lots of little transactions worth pennies each and app entities on chain.

My new setup is cursor next to jetbrains. I do general codegen in cursor then fixups, debugging and testing in jetbrains. Literally experiencing 10x-20x my old output. Code quality suffers a bit but it's a massive net gain.

The U.S. has two tsunami warning centers, both operated by NOAA. Employees were terminated from these centers today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center covers Hawaiʻi, and now it is less safe to be near the beach. www.tsunami.gov

In a move that surprised no one, the billionaires in charge decided to dismantle the IRS. Because obviously, they didn't succeed in hoarding enough wealth.

This may sound dramatic but given the choice of driving a cybertruck or hitchhiking, I think I'd rather hitchhike. I just couldn't handle being seen driving that.

I feel like people that use typescript for too long develop Stockholm syndrome with it. They're like, "no it's good now, I learned how to keep it happy" meanwhile we on the outside can clearly see it is not and will never be ok.

Here's a short list of things that can destroy a country: - For-profit prison - For-profit healthcare - Allowing politicians to receive payment in any way in exchange for policy - banning forms of public discourse - banning specific books and educational materials Sound familiar?

Reminder: It's not Democrats vs Republicans. It's megawealth vs normal people. No matter your comfort level, you are not megawealth. You are normal people.

I don't love the js ecosystem because it seems like there are just too many "yet another" projects but today I had a choice of 3 ways to build Typescript in a browser and I found a working solution without wasting too much time so all the options are nice sometimes.

I really want #nintendo to make the robot ganon vs robot link story for the next #zelda. Maybe if I keep posting it, someone there will happen to see it and think it's a good idea.

I cannot even begin to imagine how completely devastated Aubrey Plaza must be. I don't think many can. I think it's gross that some people are celebrating her "status change." 1) Doesn't and won't ever affect you and 2) You can keep those thoughts to yourself, thanks.

Potential story/mechanic for the next major zelda game: In the future, a group of disgruntled beings builds a powerful robot modeled after the legendary Ganon. It becomes sentient and leaves them to build more power solo and wreak havoc. Another group builds a robotic link to counter it. Go.

Old Stone Temple Pilots really had some well written songs. The guitar and bass parts both really impress me, much more now than when I first heard them.

I don't consider myself a completionist but I did all 152 shrines and 120 light roots in tears of the Kingdom before beating Gannon. I don't know what that means.

My family's health insurance went up to 1700/mo with a 2500 individual deductible and 9500 max oop. This means I only pay 22,900 until they'll pay for most things and 29,900 until they pay for 100%. What a deal. So glad companies profit off of this.

I've found success in complex LLM projects by separating all of parts and having it work on multiple roles discretely. Prompt first for an approach. Then prompt for an outline of work. Then prompt for each section in the outline. Etc.

It's interesting what LLMs are good at vs bad. They can do all types of things well but not a long series of things with details. Oftentimes they will hit every point in detail but still fail to hit the overarching goal.

Eras Tour review, 12/8 Vancouver BC. If you are a TS fan: 11/10. If you are not, 10/10 because it's maybe the best show that's ever been created. The crowd lighting programming and execution was incredible and she has just mastered live performance.

My dad sends me the most adorable investment advice. He should have a column. It always ends with shit like “I know it’s out of style but sleep is the key to health. Assets are there to help you sleep better, not to give you one more thing to worry about.”

I used to download 64k demos back in the 90s and I was so impressed and inspired by what people could program into that tiny space. Now just a printer driver is over 100mb. Go figure.

What I would love is if bluesky had a social token that we could gift each other for helpful posts, like reddit gold but an actual decentralized token.

Given how nearly all electrolytic capacitors fail after enough time, I'm sort of surprised that designs haven't standardized on socketing them by now.
