Just found out that a lot of people don‘t know that you can use a ”C7 figure‑8 power cord“ with any Apple power adapter in case you forgot your travel adapter. Way cheaper to get one of those usually than a full travel adapter. #travelhacks

This is a photograph of the edge of one of Saturn's rings, looking down from above. Those spiky dark shapes are shadows. Shadows of giant towers of ice and dust grains clumped together that rise up to three *kilometres* above the 10-m thick rings.

I got the covid and flu vaccines a few days ago. If you can, get yours soon! Stay healthy and keep others safe 🤙🏼

Mar Hicks@histoftech.bsky.social

As of today, the CDC has changed (reverted) their Covid guidance to make the vaccine recommended for all people over 18. In addition to being a smart public health move, this recommendation also means insurance must cover it. Read more here: www.cdc.gov/covid/hcp/va... Listen to a breakdown here:

I wish there were a hundred more Cat Hickses at every level of this tech doing work like this (and kudos to whoever *is* already doing that)

Cat Hicks@grimalkina.bsky.social

This also convinces me we need behavioral science inside of everything we do next with technology to achieve its promises 🤷‍♀️ I hope to survive in tech long enough to keep doing it

So rad!

New use case: I have been using /informed-patient + our more advanced source-verifying harness (stay tuned!!) to research a complex treatment/risk/protocol question for yet another loved one navigating cancer care. Truly amazing how swiftly it was able to set me up with good directions

Damn!

Finally going through my photos from our trip to the Southwest. We spent the last few days with family in New Mexico, and good lord was the weather dramatic. One evening it was simultaneously raining, sunny, thunderstormy, double rainbowed, and smokey from nearby wildfires.

We're doing this because it is critical that people in the same physical community interact with each other more in low-stakes, positive ways, and also it makes life more fun. Maybe you know someone who needs a pep talk/off ramp from the stranger danger mindset. www.eventbrite.com/e/1994617919...

This is an all-time quote from Kojima

Derek Yu@mossmouth.bsky.social

Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:

Roots of Soledad is finally crowdfunding! Matthijs is a legend to me; he invented the Not So Easy system The Zone uses and playing Archipelago (hosted in an RV, in the desert, but that’s another story) was my gateway into TTRPGs. So excited to get my copy 🤩 www.backerkit.com/c/projects/n...

The absolute futility of these kinds of rankings 🤭 Will never shake the metagratitude that we somehow experience music at all?! That, somehow, our sense of hearing is cracked open by sonic art; that we’re wired to collectively effervesce to the beat Amaze, amaze, amaze!

What in the WORLD?! These are incredible

I had the lighting and the energy to do a proper photo shoot of my cupcakes from last night. Now that I’ve had some distance from the project, I am quite pleased with how they turned out. They are lemon cupcakes with lemon curd filling and vanilla buttercream. I made them for my sister’s birthday.

Let it be known that Katherine Johnson was the reason for the first astronauts in space. And now Vanessa Wyche, head of the Johnson Space Center and NASA's highest ranking civil servant, is the responsible for the longest manned space flight in history

PHOTO OF THE DAY: Perhaps of the greatest photos ever taken. Captured by the crew of Artemis II this morning, looking at all of us through the window of the Orion capsule. The outline of the window is faintly visible in the photo. Breathtaking. (📸 NASA)

Oof that is gorgeous!

So I finally watched PREDATOR: BADLANDS and it’s hard to think of a genre franchise that is getting it as right as this one. Three outstanding films in a row is an incredible comeback! (edited because I miscounted).

Man this aesthetic 😍

Retro Computers@retrocomps.bsky.social

In the 70s, Sharp had a series of "Latte case" boomboxes; as the line went on, more and more got put into it, like TVs. One of the last in the line was the RatecaPuter - a latte-case boombox with a 2KB computer that could run SHARP Basic programs off of the built in tape deck.

Paddington Bear (the film version) and the half-skeletal soul-eating bear thing from Annihilation were made by the same VFX team. They wanted to name Annihilation Bear after a less salubrious London railway station. It's called Homerton. I am not making this up.

Matthew Highton@matthighton.bsky.social

I think at this point the UK has accepted Paddington as the Death Bear, collector of souls. So, I think as a nation we should start smearing marmalade on the eyes of the dead and whisper “fare for the crossing”. It’ll feel weird now but, in three of four generations, no one will question it.

I loved dipping in and immediately encountering eyes turning purple, irises to flowers—💜 where this story is going! I gotta say, it’s such a rare gift to listen in on the beautiful horrors told at tables I otherwise wouldn’t get to visit! 🥰 Thank you for playing The Zone!
