the universe probably lends itself in some way to human conscious experience, as in our conscious experience is not an arbitrary construction but somehow easier for the universe to create than other ones. emotions & sight w/ optical illusions might be low hanging fruit

more thoughts, on why comparing this to indigenous struggle is ridiculous and what i hear when people say they're "not anti-semitic"

Unlikely that digital computers experience relevant levels of consciousness Computers are v constrained physically. Consciousness dust. If we calculated GPT4 output by hand, the only experience there is ours (relevant) and the pen+paper (irrelevant). Not "GPT4" / "information processing"

if GPT4 experienced "relevant consciousness" that'd imply re-doing a multiply at the end of your hand calculated output would make GPT4 re-experience whatever it experienced. No— it's just what you experience, and what the pen and paper experience. GPUs ~don't feel.

Just out "Robustness and complexity of directed and weighted metabolic hypergraphs" (arxiv.org/abs/2310.03623). We propose a new hypergraph-based representation of metabolic networks that captures HOI among metabolites and reactions, preserving all essential information.

arxiv.orgRobustness and complexity of directed and weighted metabolic hypergraphsMetabolic networks are probably among the most challenging and important biological networks. Their study provides insight into how biological pathways work and how robust a specific organism is...

conscious {point, fuzz, trajectory} vibrations flowing through it a jazz, smooth, chaotic, sharp, mellow hertz, terahertz, low amp, high amp what's the shape of a vibration through a point? what about a point-looking-at-a-{point,line,volume,hands} every shape, infinite res-and-dim?

Words are an extremely lossy projection of reality Demanding legibility is telling people to exist in a way that minimizes that loss. To conform to lives that can be easily fully described in a few words. It’s anti-cozy, anti-emergence, anti-life

My custom instacart usability script - Gives sponsored items low opacity - Gives out of stock items a pink background - Clicks sort by price automatically on every page load Most interesting thing here imo is just how much sponsored items ordinarily completely mess up sort-by-price

Took apart a speaker and it was full of fiberglass Probably secures the speaker, prevents case buzzing, is fire resistant Puny glass rods that go everywhere and permanently lodge themselves in your body. What a concerning material. I put on gloves and wiped stuff down a ton.

do other people see these hyperbolic-cell-like squiggles when they scrunch up their hand and look through the aperture? I find it easiest to see when I make an okay-hand aperture then slowly narrow the diam to ~2mm, right by me eye, other eye cupped closed

amazingly captures a hyperbolic-bio vibe looks like the countlessly-many squiggles i see, from my eye or my mind, when i curl up my hand like this 👌 or this 🤏 + look through it at a blank white wall with good ambient light as I make the hole / distance between my fingers get smaller

sometimes I can see veins on the edges and I feel like those might be on/around my retina or somewhere else in the eye, (idk, have to learn more about eyes)

Nothing makes you appreciate the social value of your job like seeing your org screw something up and then watching the whole world complain about it. "I am sorry you are having that problem I will try to type faster."

just because you are willing to burn the library of Alexandria because the books are free doesn't alter the fact that existing copyright laws are not protecting creators but rather corporate interests look at internet archive lawsuits over archives of out of print 78s Who benefits from this & why?

tis sidewalk christmas season in boston. i have picked up - 12 blocks of wood - 11 cubbies worth of clothing - 10 hangers - 9 questionably dirty things - 8 pots for plants - 7 shelves - 6 neighbors' names - 5 nice bags - 4 mirrors - 3 kitchen appliances - 2-cassette player - 1 really massive CRT tv

non-exhaustive, slightly fudged numbers, over the past two weeks 🤓 and I wasn't taking stuff willy-nilly, just things I thought I might actually use

my friend who does uni research on the bible says probs not said this passage is for an audience who knows what's up, obtuse wording reflects confusion of people in it said 18th/19th c my thoughts here were more popular but reflected biases moreso than what John meant here just sharing his take 🤓

sounds like he was just trying to describe atoms?!! given language constraints of the time you kinda just had to know him to get what he meant and then after he died it just became an entirely different thing ? https://www.bibleinsight.com/supper.html
