The number of connection address and protocol combinations keeps growing, and every browser behaves differently. With Happy Eyeballs v3 browsers will fall back to a working option faster and more safely. This session will show what its performance impact looks like. Max Inden at perfnow.nl

Well, then it's time for some anniversary festivities! Let's start with a modest πŸŽ‰ and see if it leads to a πŸ₯³

Just realized that I've been doing this CSS YouTube thing for 10 years now.

I'm writing an article for another site (first time in at least five years, but that's not the point). Yesterday, when my first draft was done, I asked ChatGPT for comment.

The actual feedback was mildly OK, and I implemented a few of its remarks. It made some remarks about the structure of my article, but the funny thing was that the structure of the edits was very poor. It told me not to repeat myself, but repeated itself several times.

The comments were ... meh. It clearly inhaled some sort of American editing process, and was clearly programmed to sound appreciative of human humour, having learned that this is something humans like and makes for a better article.

A site called Down Detector, where I saw there are indeed problems with my email host: "Don't miss the next outage! Create an account!" Well ... if it's all the same you ...

Could you do me a favour? If you have access to site analytics, please tell me what percentage of iOS visitors are in landscape mode. For now I just need the percentage. I'll get back to you if the percentage is interesting. Thanks!

Small changes can mean death by a thousand cuts for your performance. This talk is about what Risko learned about regressions, where the numbers lied, unrealistic throttling, and why "LCP doubled" isn't always bad news. You'll leave with a tester's view of web performance. Risko Ruus at perfnow.nl

What if we could provide websites that have the ability to do their thing while being offline? In this talk, I’ll show you how I’ve harnessed the native web APIs to implement offline capabilities while minimizing the amount of Javascript to execute in the browser. Aleth Gueguen at perfnow.nl

Oh wait, let me partially amend that: The way to get background-origin: padding-box to work on the body is to repeat the background image in the html tag. It needs to be BOTH in the body AND in the html. Or it doesn't work. In all browsers. I mean, this can't be right, can it?

I wouldn't happen to know someone who works for PUFFIN, would I? I have a few questions (mostly why my test page doesn't work at all, not even the CSS.)

I'm likely not going to make it updating the table tomorrow. So too bad for the tenth anniversary. But there's a lot to consider and I forgot a lot about the viewports and the test process. Also, I'm writing a new test suite.

Wait, wasnt' there a fairly recent new property for Chrome/Android that said 'stop fucking about with font sizes and actually do as I actually tell you'? In other news, I'm starting to remember why viewport tests were such a pain.

Doing viewport tests for the first time in ten years. The basics haven't changed. window.innerWidth/Height still measure the visual viewport in Safari, as it once did in every browser. And who decided that visualViewport.width should be a float? I mean, who cares about sub-pixel stuff on mobile?

Mucking about with mobile browsers For the first time in nine years I created a test suite of two phones. A few things caught my interest - especially UC supporting zoom reflowing, my favourite mobile feature. www.quirksmode.org/quirksblog/2...

Does anyone know of an Android app that uses the Android WebView to render pages and has a basic browser interface? (URL bar, Back button, Reload button.) For the first time in 10 years I have to do some compatibility testing, and I currently can't access Android WebViews.

Why is speed so hard to sell? Martin will look at where familiar arguments fail, what WebPerf can learn from SEO, and why ownership and incentives matter as much as metrics. You will leave with practical tips to turn performance into prioritized work. @machal.bsky.social at perfnow.nl

If we look at a few decades of web performance, what technologies and techniques worked, what didn’t, what made the most difference, what has stood the test of time? Making a fast website is challenging enough; keeping a website fast is harder! @adactio.com at perfnow.nl

Decline and Fall of the Roman Bagel. 5 out of 5 stars. No questions. Perfection achieved.

And I went shopping between the blogging about AI and the fixing of image galleries on conference sites ... and forgot the most important thing: a new Android. Ah well. If it works in Chrome/Mac and Safari/iOS I think it'll work on Chrome/Android and Samsung/Android.

I am simultaneously discussing the current state of the @perfnow.nl venue, explaining the boys about the coronations of Charlemagne and Napoleon, and solving a Safari/iOS bug. I'm not sure when any of it will be done. And I almost forgot to publish the short blog entry I wrote yesterday.
