Kimura vs the world as he manages to fend off both before making them fend at each other due to miscommunication on the outside.

I have no idea how most would react to Tenryu-Brody from 4/15/88 based on current standards. It's not the most exciting match as it's happening but by the end when they are paying off all the stuff they did early, it suddenly feels really great. Slow-paced and building but awesome. Brody's best IMO.

This is very true. I don't think I've encountered a single WWF house show from this time period with no good matches at all. There probably is one but it doesn't really come to mind, which means if it has happened, it was rare.

I’ll die on the hill that says the WWF house shows were infinitely better than they ever got credit for. They knew enough to give us things like this on a card. And for me personally that was what always drew my money. The Cap Centre in my case.

Valentine went to BattlArts in the mid 90s and everyone acted like it was weird, like Greg knew any way to wrestle other than hitting the other guy as hard as he could and daring him to fire back.

Kobashi and Sasaki over here.

113 issues covering an epic year are complete. Thanks to everyone who came along for it. An incredible year. I feel like I learned wrestling all over again. Looking forward to finishing out the 1980s and continuing beyond! Subscribe to Wrestling Playlists.

Over the next week, we'll get THREE new music videos from @NINaylor. The first will look at December 1987. Then we'll get a retrospective on Mid South Wrestling and a year in review for 1987!

UP NOW: For New Japan Pro Wrestling, a chaotic Sumo Hall card turned out to be a microcosm of a tumultuous year. Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot: A Fitting End to 1987 at NJPW Year End in Kokugikan

UP NOW: In December 1987, WCCW was turned over to new owners who continued the proud, tactless Dallas wrestling tradition. Out With The Old, In With The Old: Lines Crossed at WCCW Christmas Star Wars 1987

We're about to enter the final week of an epic year. We've been covering it since the end of July. On February 15, we'll have a long-form article looking at 1988 and then that week, we'll start diving in. Great time to come on board! Subscribe at Wrestling Playlists dot com!

For those who have inquired about this, there was an outer layer of fabric covering the slap bracelet that started falling off, and at that point it became very easy to get color from it. A really thin piece of metal with sharp edges. Very safe!

@kriszellner.bsky.social @pwoloss.bsky.social at the start of CSC and Charles has me wondering if someone in wrestling would attempt to gig themselves with a slap bracelet- RevRay

The rest of the card: Johnny Rich vs Jesse Barr Brad Armstrong vs Les Thornton Ron Garvin vs King Kong Bundy Mr. R (Tommy Rich) vs The Spoiler NWA National TV Title: Jake Roberts (c) vs Jerry Brisco NWA Natl Tag Team Titles: Road Warriors (c) vs Pez Whatley & Sweet Brown Sugar

UP NOW: Jim Crockett ended what once seemed destined to be his biggest year ever with a whimper. When It Rains It Pours: How Starrcade '87 Served As A Reality Check for the NWA

Among the best matches of the decade. Fujiwara and Saito is a makeshift alliance after the tournament was destroyed but it's a dream team and just ... works. Inoki and Saito have had the 1987 feud of the year and Murdoch is awfully inspired. A magical time period in pro wrestling.

12/4/87. Inoki/Murdoch vs Fujiwara/Saito. Watch Fujiwara's body language throughout this mauling of Inoki. An apex predator up against the most dangerous prey. It builds and builds until Inoki can endure it no more and he starts firing back. It stops being sport and starts being mythic.

UP NOW: In the lull between the Megapowers forming and the build to WrestleMania IV beginning, WWF fans stayed tuned in, waiting to see what would be next. Everybody's Watching: WWF Saturday Night's Main Event 11-28-1987

This whole thread has a ton of cool thoughts.

🤼Today's Wrestling Playlists from @pwoloss.bsky.social covers Starrcade '87 and Survivor Series '87, real tale of two shows, both of which I happen to remember pretty well. On the Crockett side... look, I was excited when I rented that tape sometime in 1988 because I didn't have cable as a kid...

UP NOW: World Class Championship Wrestling went into hype overdrive to make Thanksgiving night successful, but the larger story remained unchanged. Don't Believe The Hype: The Success of WCCW Thanksgiving Star Wars 1987

I debated this a few times but have decided 1988 will just focus on the daily issues. We'll continue the Timelines and music videos but that will be it. Frees me up to do some other things I want to do, including a big 80s retrospective when we wrap up the decade in spring 2027.
