My name is Shaun, I’m a Black, neurodivergent (ADHD/Dyslexic), & nonbinary young adult beginning their journey after recently losing a parent, who was my greatest source of love & stability. I was adopted & had to graduate without them by my side after they passed away.

2025 is already starting off crazy and strange considering all that has occurred so far. Right before the new year the weather was crazy and now on the 1st tragedy occurred and people got hurt and other things. 2025 has an uneasy feeling to it but we must persist and preserve through it! #2025

Power and internet is back on, severe weather and tornadoes in my area was crazy and kinda scary. Alert notifications just tell you to be prepared and be somewhere safe. Kinda weird that this is happening now and 2025 is right around the corner. This was my first time dealing with this!

Thread: Saw someone say mutual aid is “organized begging.” Interesting take, considering that the world runs on systems of people helping each other, but sure, let’s talk about it. Let’s talk about how “begging” is helping save lives, build futures, and foster community where systemic support fails.

Mutualaid helps: disabled people, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, DV survivors, unhoused individuals, elders, students, immigrants, refugees, tough situations or circumstances, single parents, chronically ill, & grassroots orgs. From emergencies to essentials, it saves lives & builds community, etc!

Mutual aid threads remind us of one simple truth: no one should face hard times alone. Whether it’s a dollar, a repost, or a kind word, every bit helps. And for every person helped, the community grows stronger. Let’s keep showing up❣️

So let’s celebrate those who: • Make threads for others. • Repost aid requests. • Contribute what they can, even if it’s just a dollar. Because mutual aid is community care. It’s action. It’s people saying, “I see you, and I want to help.” That’s beautiful.

To those who don’t like mutual aid: nobody’s begging you for anything. The community will keep showing up for each other, with or without you. To everyone out there uplifting others: thank you. Keep going. You’re making a difference, and the world needs more of that.

To the critics: charity isn’t hurting anyone, but maybe your ego is. Nobody’s forcing you to donate or care. But if people coming together to help makes you mad, that says more about you than it does about them.

A few examples of mutual aid’s impact: • A family avoids eviction because strangers cared. • A disabled person gets the mobility aid they’ve needed for years. • A trans person fleeing violence finds shelter and safety. This is humanity at its best. Why hate on it?

Think about how mutual aid threads create solutions fast. Before social media, a person in crisis might spend weeks calling agencies, navigating red tape, or waiting for approval—only to be denied. Now, they can share their story, and compassionate people show up immediately.

Mutual aid has helped: • Black and Indigenous folks, who often face systemic barriers to aid. • LGBTQ+ youth, often rejected by families. • People in developing countries facing unimaginable hardship. • Those affected by natural disasters or emergencies. How is this not a good thing?

Mutual aid a lifeline for: • Disabled people who need medical equipment or meds insurance won’t cover. • Students who can’t afford tuition or textbooks. • Parents scrambling to pay rent and buy diapers. • Folks fleeing domestic violence who need shelter, ASAP. Should they just suffer in silence?

Emergency situations don’t give warnings: • A car breaks down, and a paycheck is late. • A parent suddenly loses a job. • A medical crisis puts someone deep in debt. The difference between a mutual aid thread and silence could mean eviction, hunger, or worse.

First, to the mutual aid haters: imagine being offended by people helping people. Imagine seeing folks come together to lift someone out of a crisis and thinking, “Wow, this is the problem with society.” Does kindness keep you up at night? Just block and move on.
