When they tell us "there is no alternative," what they mean is "stop trying to think of alternatives." To imagine radically is to move beyond the helplessness of prediction: a radical imagination dares to insist that history is what we make, not what happens to us.

It’s almost like this fact is “self-evident” - gosh I wish someone had scribbled that thought down exactly, like, 250 years ago or something… oh well.

Evan Urquhart@evanurquhart.bsky.social

That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about whether those rights were graciously bestowed on them by a political party, or whether they were born equal, entitled to the same rights as anyone, and had to engage in a struggle to get others (including political parties) to recognize that.

This is just pure racism. Republicans objectively are campaigning on little more than bigotry.

Sharing this because apparently Josh Turek is proud of these views and wants the world to know he holds them - and who am I to stop that?

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

In MAGA, parental estrangement is a big issue — and parents are held out as blameless victims. I suspect that's one reason why Vivek Ramaswamy ran an ad celebrating Amy Acton's vile mother. And why MAGA — including Vance and Trump — are backing him. www.salon.com/2026/10/23/r...

And then you all gasp “can he DO that?!” Well…yes. He just…did. “Is it legal?” Define “legal” in a nation where the amount of money you have, the genitals you bear, and the lightness of your skin all carry a disproportionate significance to what your experience is going to be.

The show must go on. Though they try to stop us. Though they kidnap our friends. Though they try to silence voices that matter. We play anyways. We dance anyways. We hold space for the ones who matter anyways. And we fight back, too. With music. With ballot. With joy.

I hate to keep circling back to Graham Platner because I know a lot of BSers (works for both BlueSkyers and BullShitters, which is apropos as fuck) get nervy when we talk about their very special boy. But he really is emblematic of the WHOLE FUCKING PROBLEM we have in this country.

*He* feels guilty because she was coming to teach his students. I underscored he did nothing wrong. She did nothing wrong. The assholes who kidnapped her did wrong. I’m incandescent with rage and have no clue what to *do* now. That’s the worst of this moment - there are no handles to grab.

On deep level these people are just rejecting society itself. They do not want to participate. They do not care how society has benefitted and continues to benefit them. They don't care what happens to anyway else.

It’s been a week since this happened at Stadium-Armory Station and there’s been no response from @wmata.com as to why ICE is ABDUCTING PEOPLE IN THE METRO #metro #ICE #homelandsecurity #injustice #DC #WashingtonDC

I come from the land of “don’t vote for someone, vote against the guy you don’t like,” but I also fear the impact of voting against: Politicians read a no-confidence vote about *someone else* as a signal you agree with *their* policies. There’s no good answer. Not even sure there’s a right one.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.

Fuck thoughts. Fuck prayers. Dead fucking children who will never have birthdays or play dates or soccer games again. Dead fucking children who will never cuddle or give hugs or read a book aloud to their parents again. Dead children. Dead fucking children.

It’s gonna become how a “good guy with a gun” helped “prevent” this… with three dead elementary schoolers just being the cost of doing business, apparently.
