I wonder who the investors in the DfE SEND CPD will actually listen to when it comes to creating the training...

Schools Week@schoolsweek.bsky.social

'Training in technique can only take us so far. The more difficult question is whether the systems surrounding those strategies recognise neurodivergent pupils as successful on their own terms' schoolsweek.co.uk/inclusion-wh...

Just a guy, with diplopia, asking people to use a platform that gives a teeny tiny poop about web standards and accessibility so I can read the words on the page... (Try zooming in on the page on mobile and you'll see that Substack will shove words off the page)

Ben Newmark@bennewmark.bsky.social

A masterpiece by @daisychristo.bsky.social. Only thing I'd add is changes being proposed are only possible because we have rising standards. Once they drop (and they will) behaviour worsens and we get a crisis and return to sense. How much damage first? substack.nomoremarking.com/p/why-are-we...

Totally invested in the outcome of this ..

NEED POWERLIFTING SUIT URGENTLY, COLCHESTER AREA! Our youngest is en route to his first powerlifting competition and has literally just announced in the car that he doesn’t have an official powerlifting “singlet”. Without it he can’t compete. CAN ANYONE HELP?!

I constructed this model with Year 10 and asked some Qs. One was explain how ↑exercise leads to ↑CO₂ production. I was surprised that a few students wrote how exercise leads to ↑breathing and therefore, ↑CO₂. Is this "folk knowledge"? Or do they see the cell respiration outflow as "breathing out".

Many thanks to @krystal.io who literally worked through the night to patch the PHP for everyone's websites. Probably quite a buzz really, and systems were clearly set up to handle everything, including the comms. Try and get some sleep, and have some cake at the weekend 🍰🧁🥮

And if someone tries to sell you a website that's "more secure because it doesn't use PHP" laugh in their face (unless it's on @neocities.org in which case, kudos for keeping your <head>, <header>, and <footer> in sync)

This is the problem isn't it. We want cathedrals and palaces, bridges and gardens. We get soulless tower blacks and a paved area with a skateboard ramp. If only today's billionaires had the freedom to build what they want...

James Handscombe@jameshandscombe.bsky.social

What would happen, you ask, if one were to give a couple of poets access to a hundred thousand labourers? Well, I have you covered.

It's very annoying that Substack care so little about their readers that they make it impossible to zoom the page without losing words off the edge. That and the dubious accounts which are supported financially. There are alternatives to Substack, and if writers care about readers they must go.

Natalie Bennett@nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social

My latest Substack just out: "Five hundred million fewer birds in Europe. Seventy-five million fewer in Britain… Dawns and springs are quieter, the air, emptier” #Biodiversity #Anthropocene #NatureCrisis nataliebennett.substack.com/p/change-eve...

Excited to see this new Jason Statham movie... hopefully he'll be playing it straight (sic), not like Tootsie or Mrs Doubtfire

Raysident Evil@sireviscerate.myatproto.social

Good for him.

I'm getting more convinced that domain knowledge and domain thinking are inseparable, once you get past a certain level. I was only ever taught to think in art in night school, as an adult. It's a different kind of thinking to maths or geography, isn't it?

Nacho Santa-María Megía@nacheteer.nachosm.com

They don't get that teaching maths is not about the maths.

One of the things I miss about my day job is being able to build little websites. If you're disabled, disability/ SEND/ inclusion adjacent (or anything poetry related) and you'd like a cute new website*, let me know... *Accessible, web standards, proper CMS, extendable, easier to use than WordPress

Can anyone confirm that this Meta / Facebook "we're scraping everything you've got" clause is USA only or includes EU/UK ?

Jason Kint@kint.bsky.social

you can't be serious. This reads Meta/Facebook/Insta is looking to grant itself the rights to scrape websites across the open web - and train Meta's AI - if a company after Oct 30, 2026 uses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or other Meta services. So every biz. Read that again. Outrageous. 1/5

Two important take aways from this. The country is run by halfwits who want to "win". Cos-playing disability does not produce empathy. Try listening to and believing disabled people. As a side note, I studied Midsummer's at school, and it was only years later that I discovered it's a comedy...

I'm excited to jump into this and get some tips on PII (personally identifiable information) security when using AI.

Busy week for school inspectors! Good luck Beth and to all those school. May the odds be ever in your favour x

It's called "Creative writing" for a reason...

Sophie Heawood@heawood.bsky.social

Noseying around the Creative Writing Master's degrees on offer in our fine country and so far the most expensive I've found is the Cambridge MST in Writing for Performance, which is £25,494 (or £50,988 for overseas students) and starts with this video, with a misplaced apostrophe in the title.

No head restraints? Lol. That'll ruin it. Those berloody Europeans not letting people die in style...

Anyway, I think I'll abandon this profile and just play around with poetry on another. Any trans and / or disabled people I know need a poetry website?

I mean, there's no such thing as society, so 🤷

Simon Knight@simonknight100.bsky.social

Simon Jarrett and Stephen Unwin’s books on the social history of learning disability paint a stark picture of reduced opportunity and reducing acceptance, within a social context of other defined groups experiencing increased acceptance and visibility within modern society.

TW, euthanasia and execution. I think the answer these people are looking for is euthanasia. Let's execute the bottom 1%. If you're not paying taxes, death. Tbh, I haven't read past the first 3 paragraphs, because they were disgusting enough.

Iain Mansfield@igmansfield.bsky.social

ICMYI: A Sunday long-read. In today's Britain, public services, and spending, are increasingly distorted to serve the insatiable 'needs' of the bottom 1%. We need a Government that focuses relentlessly on improving the lives of the central 80-90%. www.edrith.co.uk/p/for-the-98...

Given that the gov is writing off 90% of LA SEND debt (in exchange for an acceptable SEND Reform plan), I'm tempted to ask where those billions are coming from. The magic money tree? Gov is not a household budget...

Ben Newmark@bennewmark.bsky.social

This means less support for people with learning disabilities like my daughter. Part of responsible and ethical system management is gatekeeping so that the most vulnerable are able to access help. It just isn't grown up to say "help everyone with whatever they need," unless there's a plan to pay.

"Every time we should have drifted, we clung..." Absolutely poetry. And what an ugly word is "clung"?

Jonny H@poppop.studio

I've read a few books by Ann Patchett now, starting with The Dutch House, read by Tom Hanks. But the poetry in Whistler is incredible, especially when juxtaposed by an autobiography of Wilfred Owen, which I read before sleep. Knowing the end, Death, before you start, has been the theme of my life

If you've vibe coded your marketing website, how do you edit it? Do you seriously just use more ai and ask it to fiddle a few words?

A really important question, especially for the teams putting together the DfE SEND CPD over the coming months.

Stuart Rowntree@primarythink.bsky.social

6/6 I'd be interested to hear how others approach this in practice. How are schools capturing progress beyond attainment, particularly for children with SEND? Are there approaches that have genuinely helped you understand the impact of provision without adding significantly to workload?

A better critique might be that you'll spend a bit of cash, and in a relatively short amount of time change the way you think about your teaching. A bit of that cash goes to compensate Chris for taking the time to distil his practice and thinking, and share it with the world. Books are amazing 😍
