what does it say about the national party that there are candidates running on the dem ticket buying ads saying that some people are technically subhuman without reprimand or even comment. would you abide that for any other group or is this one special

The "best" part is that probably 90% of these parents could have their kids back in their lives with a heartfelt apology and a sincere attempt to be less shitty but they'd rather whine to a newspaper instead.

Whether or not ppl cutting off their parents is an actual phenomenon (is it, really?) or just clicky outrage bait, anti-estrangement is a paternalistic, socially regressive position — it’s so similar to being anti-divorce that the two are virtually indistinguishable.

I think you can learn a lot about the moderate political program in Seattle and WA more generally by reading this gish gallop from political consultant Eileen Pollet.

In case you missed it, in a (now deleted) comment on @sharethecities.bsky.social insta, I was told to make my own website if I didn’t like theirs. Now that I have finally gotten the attention of the anonymous folks at @leftycheatsheet.bsky.social @sharethecities.bsky.social, I have some questions!

I’d never really experienced it much before but holy shit now I know what people mean when they say the Republican Party has a penis envy problem

But they have rated 96 of their 606 read books 5 stars so they're not just a hater. Highlights include The Autobiography of Malcom X, everything Elena Ferrante has written and a book called Alpha Kings by some manosphere loser.

I looked at a few of their 5 star reviews and the only explanation I found was on this one, which is a book that seems to be a baby book about body part names in Tagalog.

So I went to this person's page. The Color Purple? They found it unbelievable that the characters were anti racist. Toni Morrison? Also can't write. Macbeth? 3 stars, no explanation. Ralph Ellison is immature.

I'm doing a custom wall from Catastrophic Creations for my cat who hates heights, one of those coffee brewers that looks like the mad scientist table from the Sims 1, a $200 on a silk scarf printed with Fyodor Pavlov art, the Star Trek Fluevog boots (I'm not a trek fan), and more.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Why is Katie Wilson allowing serial killers to invade our homes? by Danny Westneat and Rob Saka

I had to have my manager email security to give me permission to use the bathroom at work (the only gender neutral ones were in a locked wing and it took 3 years for this saga to play out), hands down the most humiliating part of transitioning. And it's the LAW over there now? Fucked.

Civil servant transgender guidelines leak just dropped:

Closing in on 8 years since I came out at work and I was able to stop the dead naming within a couple months (though my dept director still has me saved in his contacts under my old name), and we're at about 70% misgendering, a big improvement over the last year.

This in a place where state/local govt and my employer mandate calling staff by the correct name/pronouns and letting them use whatever restroom they're comfortable in, and my colleagues are mostly trying to be seen as tolerant libs. I can't imagine what it's like in the UK.

Weird buildings are the best! Bring them back!

Jessica Ellis@baddestmamajama.bsky.social

One thing I truly hate about our boxy bland everything is grey style of architecture is the loss of really fuckin weird buildings. Bring back haunted foster’s freezes and impossible googie roofs and circular buildings from the black lagoon.

Walked into the classroom with tons of minion shit all over and just as I expected the teacher was so nasty to me that another teacher told her to chill out. What is it about minions people that makes them so evil?

Of all the things I hate about coming back to the office full time, the fact that the vent above my desk is always going full blast even when it's 76° or more has got to be my least favorite.

And the worst part is it's still easier than trying to sell stuff on marketplace or Craigslist or whatever!

Jason Koebler@jasonkoebler.bsky.social

giving stuff away on Facebook marketplace and buy nothing groups is such a wiiiild experience. The amount of labor and communication people need to come grab a like, free plant or end table is unreal

My extremely traumatized former street dog spent all day cuddling with me on the couch! I will be riding this high forever, it took a year and a half and it was worth the wait.

Trying to join the fucking union, month 6: the person who insisted we come in on the new contract rather than file with PERC in the spring forgot about us at bargaining so we're back to square one

NEW: Alexis Mercedes Rinck has proposed an amendment to Rob Saka's SAFER Streets Act that would give the City Traffic Engineer explicit authority to implement street changes in historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place) without getting the approval of the local boards.

I used to know a bunch of the Seattle rationalist/EA folks, when I was last around any of them AI stuff was one of many focuses and much less apocalyptic sex cult. It's really accelerated over the last few years. It's so depressing!

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

These people have always been obnoxious, but a lot of them used to donate huge chunks of their salaries working for evil tech companies to things like programs to eradicate guinea worm or buying bed nets to help combat malaria. And now they're all working in "AI safety" and losing their minds
