You can read my review of @lindaaburnett.bsky.social and @brucealexb.bsky.social's "Race and the Scottish Enlightenment: A Colonial History, 1750–1820" in @global-ih.bsky.social. It's an outstanding book that grows and grows into something really powerful. www.tandfonline.com/eprint/T5CS2...

Visited @iurmalmo.bsky.social today to hear, among other interesting things, a presentation of the Gaza Soundmapping Project (ambientgaza.org). Worth checking out and supporting if you're interested in sound archives, sound mapping and the politics of listening in a Palestinian context.

I was JUST talking with my history of technology students the other day about how Alexa and Siri are ladies but Claude and Grok are dudes and what that might tell us about our relationship with the technological worlds around us
Every time I see someone talk about Claude I think about how they switched from female to male names as soon as they wanted the robots to seem like experts vs personal assistants.

I recently read the work of my LU colleague Carl-Johan Palmqvist, a philosopher of belief, "non-doxasticism" and misinformation. A key point wasn't just that misinformation leads to false beliefs but that a context of fake news and AI imagery makes it harder to ever be sure of anything.

"In order to go on the flotilla, I had to make my peace with the reality that I will probably never meet my brother. Do you ever make peace with something like that? I don’t know, but I was trying. Then I was transferred to a prison where he’d been tortured." novaramedia.com/2025/10/13/i...

Mini documentary about the SOUND+PURPOSE conference organised by the Sound Environment Centre at the end of November 2025.
Was at Simon Halberg's successful PhD defence this afternoon. His thesis is a work of rare quality, quite a page turner, with a fantastic central argument and focus. It's free to read online and should interest historical and landscape geographers + many others! portal.research.lu.se/en/publicati...

I was amazed by the quality of the contributions and discussions at this event last week. I've never heard such thoughtful Q&A questions, for example. I learnt so much and have lots to think about. It was great to host and get to know so many wonderful people. Missing you all already ❤️
Wow, what an inspiring two days we had in Lund last week with the SOUND+ Network and all 60 amazing participants of the SOUND+PURPOSE conference! Big thanks to everyone who travelled here and helped make this event possible. We're already looking forward to next year in Nottingham...!
If you like sound art and will be in or near Lund this Thursday, you might be interested in this event. It's the public performance session of our SOUND+PURPOSE conference, for which the very exciting programme is now online: www.lmc.lu.se/en/node/591 (NB conference is for invited contributors only)
We are pleased to host a live performance session feat. artists Sylvain Souklaye and Florence To, Nov 20 in Lund. Souklaye and To will explore the potential of sonic performance and listening for social transformation, ecological inquiry, and collective presence. www.lmc.lu.se/en/activitie...

Kieran has been using the term "gimcrack" (meaning ornate and showy but cheaply and badly made) to describe Israel's operation. This investigation shows what he means. "The models make the military look more professional, like a high tech company with cool technology" www.972mag.com/israeli-army...
