I've just finished reading a book about the 1846-48 Mexican-American war. It led me to look up two phrases on Wikipedia (thank you Wikipedia!): "Manifest Destiny" & "Monroe Doctrine" Go have a look at these alarming historical rabbit-holes. And maybe Trump can read after all (or is it Miller?) !!

The only sensible local authority area in the West of Scotland, based on employment, health services & education provision is the Strathclyde area. Glasgow needs its airport back, as well as Hillington etc We need to face the reality that Renfrew, Paisley, Bearsden etc, are all parts of Glasgow

Imagine a Scottish PM of the UK standing up in Manchester and saying that Greater Manchester was too centralised and proposing that it needed to be broken up and power devolved to smaller areas like Liverpool and Bradford. Quite, Burnham's grasp of Scottish geography and politics is very poor.

C'mon Andy, get yourself out to the West. Visit Campbeltown and tell the people there how devolution to smaller areas within Scotland will provide the resources needed to fix the A83 !! Scotland needs more control of its own resources back within the EU. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿independence is the only solution.

Taken to its logical conclusion, in terms of designing a viable economic unit, Glasgow and Edinburgh should be combined as one administrative area – two hubs in a city-region with free public transit between them. And then HeyPresto we've reinvented the concept of Scotland !! Go home Andy Burnham
