Well it what Trump means by ‘rule’ that is bully with threats of violence , how he governs the US too

Jacob T. Levy@jacobtlevy.bsky.social

I feel a great disturbance in the force, as if millions of political scientists cried out in bafflement and then suddenly fell into silent sobbing.

I'm very critical of the IHRA definition of 'antisemitism' but explain to me how specifically by its example, "Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the state of Israel." Wouldn't "consulting" the Canadian Jewish community in this case be antisemitic? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

@nytimes.com has been so disappointing for so long, this piece explains it well. My hope is that the growing movement that Mamdani represents will reveal to mainstream ‘liberal’ readers how it’s so problematic

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"

@carleton.ca has not succeeded dodging problems of pretended ‘neutrality’ with ‘impartiality,’ the purpose of universities is to be partial on the side of credible knowledge and responsibility but ‘academic freedom’ may be a better approach charlatan.ca/carleton-pol... #freeexpression #freespeech

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market. Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today. Four giants control 80% of meat processing. A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry. The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

Now is the time for the Canadian government to back off its terrible vision for Canada Post and offer new services like a not for profit social media platform, banking, and parcel service that fits the 21st century #postalstrike #goCUPW

Indeed, but this intimidation is very real precisely because “Antifa” is not a defined organization, they can and will go after whoever they wish.

Cas Mudde@casmudde.bsky.social

Within 24 hours the president of my country of residence and the parliament of my country of birth designated “Antifa” a terrorist organization. Neither has the actual authority to do so. But far-right politics has always been more about intimidation than legality.

Let’s be clear, N Korea wasn’t bombed because they have nuclear weapons. This gives #Iran little choice but to develop ‘deterrence’, but the US says it’s not a war, so we know they are in lulu land

Replying to @ibramxk.bsky.social

All these colleges that are shutting down affinity graduations, affinity groups, antiracist and feminist speakers, diversity offices, anti-genocide demonstrations, Ethnic Studies programs, Gender Studies programs, or Queer Studies programs are not committed to ideological diversity.

Thanks @caut.bsky.social , this is such an important point, “It’s worrying that a leader of a political party in Canada would try to dictate how research funds will be granted,” Mr. Robinson said. “This kind of American-style culture war has no place in Canada.”

Shirley Tillotson @stillots1.bsky.social

My brilliant colleague, Françoise Baylis, OC, pulls no punches. When scientists "bow to political masters," they "will ultimately destroy knowledge production" 🇨🇦 sovereignty includes having our own policies of academic freedom, preserving trust in science www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

An important response to a dead in the water legal gambit! Although however ‘narrow’ I don’t see how ‘neutrality’ can ever be defined and operationalized

This statement by Trump's Press Secretary is literal fascism. It's already here. Meanwhile, most Americans appear absolutely apathetic about it.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt: "Newsflash to these liberal judges who are supporting their obstructionist efforts: 77m Americans voted to elect this President. Each injunction is an abuse of the rule of law. Newsflash: The US Constitution deliberately separates power to stop tyrants like Trump.
