AI is _wild_. I have some old CT data from xromm work, and one scan's a bit crap, but the nicer scan had an error where bone lengths didn't match up (subtly difference of 4mm on a 75mm bone). I gave it a prompt, and pointed it at the folders, and it directly analysed the dicom data. 1/2

It identified all the machine details from the DICOM headers, of course, but then it proceeded to _identify different bird bones in the scan_, then rendered MIP images directly from the data so it could measure 3D distances between markers and compare scans.

This week part of my team and I were at Cryassac tracksite, France. It was _phenomenal_ - some of the best tracks I've ever seen! You should definitely go if you get the chance.

Watched the cartoon Spider-man from 1994 with my three year old. He loved it, but the end spider-verse took some explaining, and the finale where 'our' spider-man goes to a universe where spider-man is a fictional character, and has a heart-to-heart with Stan Lee took some explaining...

I've still not found a soild, data-driven use case for gaussian splats, but there's no denying the fidelity of the visualization/reconstruction is vastly superior to photogrammetry. Left: RealityScan, Right: Lichtfeld Studio, both using same video input, with camera alignment done in RealityScan

It's lovely that my office is directly underneath some media studies nonsense where people like to play the drums and make music occasionally. Really adds to the academic feel of being at a university.

The serif font I've put on my phone is ugly as sin, but it's still better than the 20 minutes I spent yesterday entering a password that couldn't be copy pasted but contained multiple capital i's and lower case L's. "IlIlIlIl"

Conference: we put on childcare because we want to be inclusive and help parents Funders: we understand parenting constraints and will allow funds to be flexible to take kid to conference. UK unis: LOL GET REKT. POLICY SAYS F U

Getting Dragonfly setup on Linux (runs better than Windows!) on my new laptop with a 5090, and wanted to push it, so here's a vole scanned at 13 microns resolution (70GB dataset)

A Marie Curie Post-doc absolutely kick-started my career. Like everyone else, I would be happy to host a potential fellow and help develop their application if it's in my wheel house.

Big opportunities for researchers 🌍 We are investing nearly €400 million to help researchers share their work and collaborate with the best scientific teams across the EU. The 2026 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships are now open. More: link.europa.eu/PNxpxw

I've long been embedded in the Microsoft ecosystem, and a big part of that has been having my personal (and work) data held by OneDrive. Last month I finally moved 700GB of personal data over to @infomaniak.bsky.social kDrive, and so far it's been mostly great. peterfalkingham.com/2026/04/10/l...
