A staggering quantity that simply rewards those with the biggest wallets, or demos that are already released and popular. Visibility during a Next Fest is impossible, and the amount of slop is unbelievable.

Charlotte Reynoldson@charreynoldson.bsky.social

Steam Next Fest has over 8200+ games participating this week. Lol. Lmao. I would love to know how many of those games actually have PR because it does not seem worth it! imho! Resources are better used elsewhere!

Nice

🎉 HUGE CAREER ANNOUNCEMENT 🎉 Today, I'm launching Vertical Slice, a new independent trade outlet committed to producing quality video game journalism that inspires, informs, and interrogates. That means daily news, incisive interviews, vital investigative work, and more. www.verticalslice.news

Day 1, day fucking oneeeeeeeeeeee

William Bibbiani@williambibbiani.bsky.social

Travis Knight’s WILDWOOD is such an astounding achievement in stop-motion that even if the story sucked, it would be a “must see.” But the story is wonderful (if a little archetypal), so the effort it took to produce this masterpiece was wholly justified. My review is at @thewrap.com!

So excited for this

OPENING ACT demo is LIVE! Big update with new lighting, story sections, and the first look at the playable hub area. There's a whole bunch of smaller fixes to make the experience better on controller as well as some extra surprises waiting for you. Find out how to get access below!

I've sent out a lot of media kits in my time and they're incredibly time consuming to create (often months and months), expensive & shipping is challenging to organise. We also take a lot of time to choose who they go to because we hope they'll love them. It's a bit grim to see this instantly sold.

just for context: doing this will get you fired as a games journalist

It’s Sable’s 5th Anniversary! I’ve written some reflections on what the game means to me, and to celebrate I’m delighted to announce that @lostincult.co.uk are reprinting the Sable Design Works Find out more here: www.eteogames.com/sable-turns-...

We just rolled out a big overhaul to the playtest, so if you have access to that on Steam, you should re-install it. Major changes to lighting, new cutscenes, and the first look at the S3PF Command hub is all available. Proper announcement and trailer coming next month.

It would be wonderful if we could stop framing games as studio versus studio. All developers care about all games. I've never once heard a developer talk about another in this way. Most are simply glad to be doing what they love, while watching others do the same.

Wardogs has already made more money than Marathon, and its Steam launch momentum is ahead of Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2. https://bit.ly/4j2GMsI

I work a lot with Steamworks, to delist a product on Steam you have to physically mail their support and ask for the product delisting. It's not an error, it's a direct act to remove it. partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/re...

There's over a hundred indies better than the GOTY every year, but let's pretend that's not a thing

Hayes Madsen@solfleet.bsky.social

I mean this with genuinely zero shade to the writer, who does lay out their points, but I personally think the bigger issue continues to be how we frame what being “GOTY worthy” means

Is this the same guy that gave a 1.0 launch date because the price will rise after release, to see people rush to buy, only to rug pull the date by 6 months?

John • Gaming In The Wild@gaminginthewild.com

The director of Ori and No Rest For The Wicked is awful. He compared cancel culture—that is, social & professional consequences for abusers when the law fails—to the holocaust. His new anti-critic review platform will formalise racist, sexist review bombing as a feature, not a bug. Fuck this guy.

Seeing quite a lot of discussion about gamescom, stolen items and security. Just got clarity, there's absolutely none of value - walls, booths, doors, are all easily bypassed, there's no security outside of predictable sections and during B2B days and off-hours it's a free-for-all.
