The new Weaklung EP has been sent off to be mastered! Very excited to have Matthew Barnhart (Neurosis, Sumac, Silkworm, Superchunk, Bob Mould, Pelican, METZ, Bedhead, FACS, Pissed Jeans, Twin Peaks) working with us. We are in good hands.

Last night I found out that Mothman’s kid goes to Roosevelt University. That’s why he’s seen around Chicago from time to time, but he still lives jn WV. I find this explanation quite satisfactory.

I’d put tonight up alongside the best shows we’ve played. The Burlington always does a grand job with the sound, the people who came out for a late show on a Sunday brought real energy. It’s getting harder to ignore the evidence that we might actually be quite a good band

Big thanks to all who came out to the Weaklung show tonight. Great turn out, great friends, a fun night. Big thanks to @thecorlew.bsky.social for reading tonight. Amazing. Would a man in a hot dog shirt steer you wrong. A very babely show tonight.

This bastard mutation of the beatnik coffeehouse ideal, 3 chords & the truth & sometimes not even that; a riff & a truth, packaged concisely, if it runs more than three minutes someone’s fucked up, if you tolerate this your children will be next and if I can shoot rabbits then I can shoot fascists

any politician who won’t say “trans rights” with their full chest is showing that they 1. are willing to throw the most vulnerable people under the bus and 2. fall for idiotic right wing traps. disqualifying!

It’s a really fine line between getting the word out about our shows and being seen to be making more effort than is palatable to the elder millennial/younger gen x crowd who is the ideal audience for our (occasionally deliberately!) nasty-sounding noise rock.

Too energetic for the old heads who want the raw sounds at a knee-friendly BPM, too raw for the young ‘uns who like their shiny, polished Turnstiles and whatnot. God forbid we alienate the last sliver of audience by trying too hard.

Affordable electric guitars. Most Squiers are as good or better than standard Fenders were 25 years ago.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Basically almost any instruments that actual working or working-class musicians use. There’s not really any point to buying vintage instruments any more; you pay for the provenance more than the quality.

Hahaha this band was super important to me for a long long time and it’s wild and surreal hearing them played back to back with a song I wrote

fuck. FUCK I was just walking past a bunch of young people kicking a football around and the ball flew off towards me and I tried to kick it back to them and hit a tree instead and it went even further away fuck well guess I have to go and live in the woods forever now

I am at peace with my prowesslessness at most sports, but only if I’m never called upon to display it. No shame greater than that of the useless passer-by

If anyone wants to test this theory, come out to the Burlington on Sunday night.

World’s first MTI (musically transmitted infection) the sick riffs make your ears bleed and then the virus gets into your blood that way

The Chicago Board of Elections has received your ballot envelope, and it is pending within our intake process for the 2026 General Election. We will inform you when your ballot has been processed. Thank you for Voting By Mail!

There is so much fucking work that goes into administering an election and I’m glad Chicago has prioritised its resources to ensure it goes reasonably smoothly. It’s very reassuring to get an email that your ballot has been received!

Also my weird spindly fingers, framed in a way that hides the rest of my hand so they look like distinct organisms… I feel like this image might be viscerally disturbing to certain people. It makes me feel uncomfortable in a way I can’t quite identify.

Holy crap. Walgreens now offers “press * to turn off hold music” while waiting for the pharmacy to pick up. It’s only taken how many decades for this feature to be developed?

Yesterday was basically my perfect day. I got to be HELPFUL and PRODUCTIVE and do stuff OUTSIDE in the SUN, with LIVE MUSIC and BIKES. And naturally the good feeling lasted right up to the point where I woke up this morning and had to work.

One last boost for this, come on down and hear some sounds on a bridge in the beautiful autumn sunlight!
