my FB + Bsky + google-Adverts timeline suddenly contains a lot of Croatia / Istria / Rovinj / Balkan / Adriatic. Internet knows... Look forward to visiting #HrOUG

These students have to pass serious entry-criteria. Any country that has a large influx of talented and entrepreneurial foreign students should be proud, and facilitate those young folks. These students can turn into LifeLong Ambassadors and contribute to the country, economically and culturally.

Reminder dat de strijd van politici tegen buitenlandse studenten nooit om de economie ging maar pure vreemdelingenhaat is. Met -ook hier- een kwalijke hoofdrol voor Pieter Omtzigt nos.nl/artikel/2629...

Could not resist... The One Script to create a database. Hobby project got out of hand. Was Great Fun. I did re-learn a few things, also check the minor improvements. simpleoracledba.blogspot.com/2026/08/draf... Normal Work will resume shortly. #oracle26ai #database #scripting #linux #SQL #sh

simpleoracledba.blogspot.comCreating an Oracle 26ai database from a Single Script - Cool.TL;DR: The One Script you will Ever Need to create an Oracle 26ai Database . And for you to configure, should you want to. After a remark fr...

DBA, admin, Scripting. When you set out to combine, improve, maybe simplify a set of scripts... And you end up with a Rather Looong new script which then also needs some explaining to colleagues... #Simplify #includeComments #NeverHARDCODE (Parameters are Good, Defaults are Easier...)

And let me add: Always Explain the Idea, the Concept. The script will follow from that. Never start with reading code, start with Understanding the Idea behind the code... Data is More Important than Code.

Thought: Design your Data! Datamodel and actual Data(-content) are More Important than "code" or (AI-) code-reviews... A well designed Data-model in a well Protected (RDBMS, Constraints!) will outlive "code" by several generations. And modifying "code" is a lot easier than "migrating data".

And those who do not Design (and do not Think about) their datamodel are doomed to tweak and wrestle with their systems forever (the source of eternal work-hours, but often not very satisfying....)

This was actually quite Fun to tweak with. Nice Memory. Idea came while listening to @chrisrsaxon.bsky.social. It got outlined on train-trip, then had to polish text and demo-scripts several days to get it "readable". Ended up with 3 blog-posts... Is it worthy of a ppt+demo session ?

You can create enums in Oracle AI Database 26ai with CREATE DOMAIN color_e AS ENUM ( red, orange, ... ) This maps the names to values from 1 (red = 1, orange = 2, ...) @pdevisser.bsky.social shows how you can use these as Table columns Readable constants in SQL

There are those organizations that Know they have been hacked... And there are those that dont know, yet.

I keep thinking about how OpenAI is a DoD vendor and a legit military target while we are in a war with a nation that has hackers and OpenAI has stated on the record that someone or something was aggressively hacking another US organization from their network… …and they didn’t notice for a week.

Colleague with coffeemug, doing some shoulder-surfing while I rapidly logon to various screens... "Hmm.. you are obsessed with that Polish Conference eh ? me: huh? him: your password, it is accidentally visible... Fr0mN!2POUG2026 #POUG2026

(with relaxed thinking cap on) Code-generation is now so easy.. Any idiot can produce scripts or programs that do (approximately!) what he wants them to do. But who remembers: An extra Hour of Design, saves an Day of Programming. And a extra Day of Programming saves a Week of Testing?

This .. Came back when I tried to demo something - Again. Put this in do_it.sh: sqlplus scott/tiger@orclpdb1<<EOF select 'no echo yet' as txt from dual ; set echo on select 'still no echo' as txt from dual; EOF Not the echo you expect ! Happens to me time + again...

Solution: Put the SQL into an SQL-file and run That. cat<<EOF>show_echo.sql set echo on select 'Now you finally see the echo' as txt , 'Even multiline.' as txt2 , 'QED.' as txt3 from dual ; EOF sqlplus scott/tiger@orclpdb1 <<EOF @show_echo EOF Try it, and admire The multiline Echo

After discussing with a colleague today. You only Really Learn a topic when you try to explain it to someone. (or when you try to write an exhaustive blog about it.. Fact-Check Everything, Verify, and Do Not Trust what you think you Know)

Sitting in a metal barn, just underneath that big red Thunderstorm area W of Middelburg. Noise ! But the wind and rain are very welcome after the heatwave-days we just had.
