Hot take: Numeronyms can burn in hell. Things like: l18n, a11y and now, apparently, p10y. They aren't convenient, and they gatekeep. You need to be in-the-know to understand them, totally the opposite of inclusive design.

I do appreciate how a11y looks like ally, which is nice. But I wonder how a screen reader deals with it.

does anyone in brighton have a good recommendation for an indie mac repair shop/ my left shift key has stopped working. probably an easy/cheap fix. easy to look one up, but better to get a recommendation1

Local indie Mac store recommended using Karibiner Elements to remap my CAPS LOCK key to be my left shift key instead of getting it repaired, as a repair is expensive. Amazing what's possible! Now just need to fix a lifetime's worth of muscle-memory…

I've been off social media for a while now. But sometimes I do feel like I'm lacking a void to scream into. Now I have Bluesky signed in on my Firefox, so maybe I'll voidscream more often again.

Is there a word for the recent phenomenon where us customers get tracking systems that show staff gaming their impossible-to-meet performance targets in real time? Like that notification for a delivery attempt that your doorbell camera somehow completely missed.

We’re steering AI in a different direction — with open source building blocks, community-led datasets, and trustworthy products. Mark Surman on our next era, our double bottom line economic model and our optimism. blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/r...

Apparently my payroll account gets deactivated due to inactivity if I don’t log in to it at least once a month. Who is downloading their (monthly) payslips more than once a month?! 🤪

I went curling yesterday while on a work trip to Toronto. 🥌 It was great fun! I thought it would be like bowling but it’s much more in depth. Surprisingly physical, and now every part of me hurts. (to the point where I’ve been told at home to stop moaning!)

Probably doesn't matter as it seems there's nobody there to answer once you're through the maze of options. And no human gets back to you on their in-app chat (waiting 24h so far). This is worse customer service than the high street bank my parents are trying to switch away from.

Monzo you literally lost 3 new customers who would have signed up today, by being harder to get in touch with than high street banks to answer a simple question. Being impossible to contact is a huge red flag.

I’ve been vibe coding a thing that I’m really pleased with so far. If you own a stack of domains for side projects you’ll get to one day, you might enjoy this too!

False advertising from Europcar: I booked an EV for a holiday in Spain. Website says "no recharge required" – the collection desk argued I must recharge it before returning it, and finally caved when I showed them the website. I get home, and – surprise surprise – they charged me for recharging. 🤷‍♂️

AI voice cloning scam calls – where scammers can record your voice to make an AI clone of it and then use that to scam your relatives. 👇 Presumably even your outgoing voicemail greeting might be enough for them to use if you don't answer their call. I've just deleted mine. 👀

I took my 8-year-old daughter to the office on 'Take Your Kid To Work Day'. But when we walked in the office she started to cry. As concerned staff gathered round I asked her what was wrong and she said: "Daddy where are all the clowns you said you worked with?"

Help! I’m looking for an expert in neurodiversity (in adults, in the workplace) to come and do a talk and raise awareness. Does anyone know someone who can do this? 🙏

Zoom need to make it so that if your dog or cat is on your lap, they're not blurred as part of the 'blur background' setting. I want to see your dogs and cats!

Stop eating your lunch at your desk. Go and have an actual proper lunch break. Nobody gives a shit that you keep working on your lunch break, least of all your boss. It's not going to get you a promotion, but it is going to burn you out.

Saying somebody “will be missed” is so passive and inauthentic, like there’s a silent “but not by me” at the end. If it was heartfelt it would be “I will miss them” or “many of us will miss them”. Same with saying “my apologies” instead of “I’m sorry”.

Stuck in another bugfixing loop with Claude AI 😞 I’m not a coder so I think what it can do is incredible… until it’s not.

Spent a little time today creating a BlueSky sidebar extension for Firefox. Still need to iron out some bugs and make it possible to interact with posts in it (it's view-only at the moment), but this could be nice 🙂

Also available in dark theme. Sidebar normally lives on the left (I think repositioning it to the right isn't yet released).

You are up to date.
