Taking lecture notes is a learning process. Remembering friends & deciding on dates with them is a social process. Knowing your care plan is about looking after yourself properly. The people who design these things are infantilised babies who have staff or they are, bear with me, evil

Looking at those who really push AI use, their main reason seems to be to DO MORE. The notion it's better to do less & make it meaningful & good & worth people's money seems to be disappearing. (The race to the alienated bottom has always been on the agenda so I shouldn't be that surprised).

I'm baffled by lads who won't read female authors - feels like a dumb, self-harming "girls are icky" thing. I don't remember it being a thing when I was younger. Not reading at all? I recall lots of that, but someone who liked reading wilfully disregarding half of the writing population. Madness.

Okay, I am looking at this gendered reading piece by Ross Barkan and I have many thoughts and questions. Part of the thesis is this:

the year is 2030 and i no longer consume anything that isn't personalized to me. every game, every book, every movie extends to the limits of my own imagination and no further. i haven't been surprised in five years. i cry softly, in bewilderment, if i see a word i don't know

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

Very much enjoying the story of AI bros going to religious leaders and asking them to say that machines have souls, only to be told: a) no they obviously don’t and b) if they did then what the AI guys are doing is literally slavery and that would be BAD.

I'm glad we're finally outsourcing the horrible bits of life like making plans with friends so we can have more time to consume ads.

A new hot take: clinical psychologists should assess for "comedy" as a matter of course. So should recruiters, colleges & workplaces. "I'm afraid while this person is by most metrics a genius, we can't take them on because they're just not funny" (unintentionally funny counts)

If you pick up this book and read even just a page or two, you'll understand immediately why it's doing so well. It's phenomenal. A manual on the fightback for life on Earth.

Today in me being insufferable: A number of the zines and band posters inside that record shop, uh, belonged to me. The HF production design team borrowed* them from myself and other Chicago music scene/record store folks. The More You Know etc [*no I didn't get paid lol, I did it For the Culture]

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I interviewed Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor about their terrifying diagnosis of and surprisingly optimistic prescription for a bad case of End Times Fascism www.irishtimes.com/life-style/p...

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them
