Brazil rejected Bolsonaro. Serbia's students beat Vučić. Machado is home in Venezuela. What a day for democracy.

The alarm in Israel's business community over Netanyahu's comments is palpable. Suddenly centrist pundits are saying how important it is to end the war. Another proof that sanctions have to be on the table.

Yair Wallach@yairwallach.bsky.social

The threat of sanctions finally attracts the attention of Israeli media and voters. Thanks to Netanyahu, who promises Israelis a blockchain based economy to circumvent future sanctions. A massive own-goal just four days before polling day; he seems to be losing his game.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

"Why does my boyfriend take such ugly pictures of me???" it's because he think you're beautiful just sitting there in pajamas rubbing something out of your eye, he doesn't know how to stage the photo to present you as hot to the world because it's all hot to him

There are so, so many verified diaries of white Union soldiers at the beginning of the war saying "I don't know about this, I condemn the deplorable violence" and then they get down there and see slavery with their own eyes and immediately go "John Brown was right we gotta kill these motherfuckers"

Erik Loomis@erikloomis.bsky.social

And we can certainly condemn his violence. But let’s step back and remember just how horrible slavery was. On December 20, 1858, Brown, who had briefly returned to Kansas, led a party into Missouri to free slaves.

Yet another example of "the politics sickos need to read more military theory" is the fact that so many politics sickos seem to be wedded to the idea that a decisive battle is the One Simple Trick that will result in eternal victory

New: Researchers have quantified how easy AI search is to manipulate. Just 13 words buried in a random Reddit comment can poison AI search results. They suggest this is not easy to stop: "The way you can attack these systems is so much dumber than you think it is" www.404media.co/it-is-trivia...

It's probably easier to just handwave it and move on tbh. Something like, "it's a glitch in the Timeless Child's regeneration" and doesn't count as a result. This is Doctor Who after all, it's one of the few shows that can pull off that kind of ludicrous nonsense.

Jessie Gender@jessiegender.bsky.social

The decision to cancel the Doctor Who Xmas Special is wild because I ASSUMED they were going to shop for new producers AFTER anyways & this was just a way to give them a clean start. Now any new writers will have to pick up RTD's Billie Piper nonsense which makes the property much less attractive.

There's a lot to criticize about JJ Abrams but him putting a bunch of random one-scene-wonder background aliens with cool diverse designs is one of the coolest parts of his Star Trek and Star Wars movies. Most of these aliens don't even have names or lore, they just exist and I kinda like that.

Also, can I just say, Bryan Cranston had to do a TON of hard work to make a single character who shows up for one scene and make you feel bad about him dying and the dude NAILED. he did it SO WELL! Like, genuinely, you could see why he'd become a big name later!

The number of actors I recognize from other shows, especially Star Trek, has lowered as I get further along, but all of a sudden Bryan Cranston appears as a Ranger.

Gee, I didn't know about this series. Taking the content of hefty $60 hardcovers and putting it in $14 paperbacks! DC's Compact Comics really really were a pro-consumer initiative that forced other publishers to get on board.

Bring back the network television format! 22/24 x 42-minute episodes, which allowed for important episodes, character episodes, comedy episodes, experiment episodes. Just look at a show like The X-Files. Some of its BEST episodes would be dismissed as filler these days.

"New research from the firm has found that what it terms the “Stranger Things effect” was by no means imagined, with the average gap between seasons of scripted originals on major platforms almost doubling from 12 months in 2020 to 21 months in 2025." For Ahsoka, at least 39 months.

There was a period where people kept saying the internet wasn’t real life and then a period where people started to accept that the internet had become real life but I think we’re out of that now and that the internet isn’t real life anymore, it’s some sort of hyperreal zone of impossible terrains

New: Federal agents pulled a gun on neighbors observing an arrest in Washington DC on Tuesday. Witnesses say the agents (from several agencies) were arresting a man for having an open beer. "There's a whole surge, right, that's coming out of the President's office," one agent is heard explaining.

Solidarity with E. Jean Carroll and all survivors who face legal retaliation and criminal prosecution for speaking the truth. This is both remarkable and utterly unsurprising. Survivors have been jailed, retraumatized, harassed, and sued into silence for far too long.
