Hi Bluesky! Proud to be in the PA Senate working for—and with—the people of Pennsylvania for safe streets, freedom of movement, housing for all, care for all, fully resourced public schools, true justice in our systems, respect and dignity for workers, and a healthy, livable climate. Let’s do it.

It was a joy to celebrate the renovations of Philly House’s ground floor facilities! Across our city, no other shelter is as large, nor has as long a history of service. Here, guests are met with care, dignity, respect, and wrap-around services, as well as a warm meal.

I was proud to help support these renovations with a $500,000 state grant. The highest honor of my job is championing Philadelphians in visioning the world that we want—and in the hard work of building it. Thank you, Philly House, for all that you do.

Excited to host a paper shredding event this Saturday with neighbors in Logan Square! Come out 10am-12pm for free, safe, confidential disposal of all your outdated sensitive documents. 🗓️ Saturday, Oct. 10, 10am-12pm 📍 Fountain View at Logan Square, 2 Franklin Town Blvd (near 18th and Callowhill)

If you have questions about your mail ballot or anything else regarding the upcoming election, join my telephone town hall tonight at 6pm with @PAStateDept Secretary Al Schmidt! We’ll cover important information and answer your questions live. Go to pasenatorsaval.com/tth.

Philly folks: On Tuesday, October 6th, I'll be at American Grammar in Kensington to talk about my new book, Building Postcarbon Futures with @pasenatorsaval.com (including how it fits into the permitting reform discourse that BAAJA super-charged this week). Join us at 6PM!

My brilliant book designer, Cristian Ordonez, just did a photoshoot for my beautiful child. I'm going to share one a day on here and remind you all to Preorder it soon! CUP: cup.columbia.edu/book/buildin... Indie Bookshops: bookshop.org/beta-search?... Ama*on: a.co/d/0hnib2jU

I just signed the Week Without Driving pledge. Starting today through October 8, I’m walking, biking, using transit—and, when none of these are possible, carpooling—to travel around the region for work and with my family.

Some 30% of Pennsylvanians don’t drive, because of age, a disability, income, or another factor. Here in Philly, 1 in 4 households doesn’t have a car. Week Without Driving invites us to reimagine mobility across our country, in rural and urban areas, and everywhere in between.

A little rain couldn’t dampen our 5th Annual Senior Celebration this past weekend! Thanks to all who came out to share a meal, connect with neighbors, and hit the dance floor. And much gratitude to our community partners who showed up with resources and information to support our seniors.

State Senator Nikil Saval Wants to Bring Universal Healthcare to Pennsylvania | As tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians lose health coverage thanks to Trump and the GOP's cuts, inaction and the status quo are not options for this Democratic lawmaker. @pasenatorsaval.com @pasenate.com

My letter to Drexel and the Academy of Natural Sciences Board. The museum is of incalculable value to our region and to international scientific and cultural fields. Philadelphia bears a serious responsibility to do everything we can to preserve it at its current location.

A gorgeous morning at Philly’s annual Labor Day Parade. Generations of workers fought for the protections we have today. We honor their victories by continuing this fight until all people have safe working conditions, fair wages, and dignity for our labor.

A momentous time in our home, with Ishaan in 2nd grade and Mayukh in kindergarten! Our family is one of hundreds of thousands heading back to school across the district. Each year, I’m more awed by the care of our educators, the commitment of our staff, and the brilliance of our students. #phled

Today and tomorrow are the last days of the My Market East storefront! Come talk with Philly city planners, learn about the Market East Revival, and share your vision for what comes next. 📍930 Market St. 🗓️Today (8/27) and tomorrow (8/28), 12pm to 6pm

This year’s budget makes strides to support Pennsylvanians at all moments of their lives, but to truly meet this moment of incredible financial hardship, our constituents need their representatives to be loud, clear, and uncompromising. This is a budget of missed opportunity.

During the protracted housing crisis affecting our Commonwealth and our country, this bill will update Pennsylvania's regulations to help our communities build in ways that meet the needs of their residents. Proud to have worked on this with Senator Tim Kearney and Senator Greg Rothman.

Congratulations to IBEW Local 614 on winning a contract that provides members with respect, dignity, and good wages and fair benefits. These are the workers who ensure our City’s grid is running and all of us can stay safe. Your fight was an inspiration. Solidarity forever. 🔥

She leaves behind a legacy as a fighter and trailblazer. Throughout her career, from social work to the state Senate, she never wavered from her commitment to the dignity of all people and for their needs to be fully met.

I’m honored to have known her, and we all owe so much to her for the path she helped carve out in the fight for a better world. My heart is with her and all who loved her. May she rest in power. ✊🏾

IBEW Local 614 members work around the clock to ensure safe, reliable electric service throughout the region. Proud to join my colleagues in calling on PECO to bargain with the union in earnest and arrive at a deal that respects the workers and safeguards our constituents.

The people of the United States deserve and should expect our highest court to represent the realities of our lives and make decisions that respect our laws. Instead, each June, we brace ourselves against an onslaught of attacks against our rights. My full statement on recent Supreme Court rulings:

We all deserve a safe home, yet too many Americans can't afford crucial home repairs - a growing issue as we watch the destructive impacts of climate change. I was proud to vote for Whole-Home Repairs in '22, and excited see this bipartisan program now help countless Americans nationwide.

Senator Nikil Saval@pasenatorsaval.com

When we first passed Whole-Home Repairs, we hoped it would offer a blueprint for other states grappling with how to preserve aging housing stock and protect their residents. Today’s passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act shows the realization of this hope.

Moreover, during a time of depopulation and displacement, it offered crucial support for Pennsylvanians to remain in their communities. Now those benefits will be available to communities nationwide.

I’m enormously proud for Pennsylvania to have laid the path for national housing action and grateful to our federal partners for their vision and dedication in making it possible for people across the country to live in homes that are warm, safe, and dry. Onward!

The creation of the Whole-Home Repairs Program was a direct investment in the health of Pennsylvania’s people and the stability of our communities. The program provided, for the first time, a statewide response to the epidemic of disrepair affecting our aging homes.

Our program offered a means for people to weatherize their homes against extreme weather and high energy costs. It made available resources for residents to adapt their homes as their abilities changed.

Our communities have been traumatized by unidentified masked operators kidnapping neighbors and loved ones outside their homes, at their jobs, and off the streets. During this time of terror and chaos, the passage of ICE OUT offers hope.

Pride is a protest and celebration born from the collective power of community. I’m grateful to my colleagues in City Council who heeded Philadelphians’ calls for action in response to footage of police violence during Pride festivities in the Gayborhood. Read my full statement here.

The loss of Dito van Reigersberg, better known to the world as Martha Graham Cracker, is heartbreaking. Our office sends our sincere condolences to Dito’s loved ones, collaborators, and all who he inspired. We grieve along with our entire city for this singular icon.

Van Reigersberg helped expand what drag could look and sound like in Philadelphia: theatrical, literary, absurd, deeply musical, and emotionally alive.
