Heroes don’t aspire to be heroic. At the end of his life, Alex Pretti was simply caring for someone in need. He’s one of the best of us. Learn. #heroplot #penplotter #algorist #machinearts #bantamtools

In my searching, there's a paucity of anodized aluminum cards at 88x64mm. Searching will bring up business card sized ones at 51mm, of which there is a glut of.

For example, searching through Yelp for boba shops will bring up Thai restaurants - this should not be a primary result. More so with cross contaminating for drop shippers between most major online resellers like Amazon and eBay.

the mad grab for engagement has made searching often useless. you end up having to manually search through search results for what is relevant. The most valuable thing is - we don't have it.

Even with vibe coding, people are making steel copies of wooden bridges. Those that really take advantage of the innovation possible are still rare.

When vibe coding makes it easy to copy, it puts a strain on incremental innovation. The VectorCraft phenomenon is a parasite on the existing Illustrator user base - but it isn't courting new use cases.

I tried out VectorCraft, and it is as inscrutable as Illustrator. Inkscape is already an open source tool that fits my workflow better.

Consequently, sometimes, you have to just imagine what the plotted output will be, but you won't know until it is actually plotted. Particularly with complex single-line plots. And a raster printer will miss it.

I call it the Tyranny of Rasterization - digital visualization of vectors is presumed to be filtered through rasterization. But plotter/3d printing invoke them as tool paths.

The thing about single-line drawings in SVG is onscreen previews don t capture whats happening. And conventional raster printers miss the nuance.

There's clearly an interest in tracing primarily to vectorize crappy AI generated bitmapped images. In my testing, Inkscape still provides the most reliable tracing.

using a TUI and CLI interface is wonderfully uncluttered, and is blazingly fast - since there are no graphics to speak of.

I am enjoying the TUI-based bluesky+mastodon client perch https://perch.ricardodantas.me. I did vibe-diagnose a bug with it. Which is kind of a positive use of LLMs.

I'm so creeped out every time someone says "let me explain" - specially when it is outside of a short form video. We've normalized this scrambling for attention in this media overloaded world.

still, I appreciate the work the #inkscape team has put in. I do wish there was some kind of "nerd mode" where things made more mathematical sense rather than trying to do raster-based shortcuts.x

Wrestling with an #inkscape issue: Stroke->Path in Inkscape is really akin to flattening the stroke, and tracing it. So any visual quirks are frozen in the resulting Path, even if they are topologically inconsistent with the initial stroke.

Instagram is so much easier to deal with in a regular browser than on the phone app. I can block ads, and prevent doom scrolling. I do use Brave.

I thought I could leave Rosetta on MacOS 28...until I needed to print to my Brother laser printer. The driver will never be made for Apple Silicon.

As long as text is the main thing being posted, perch seems to be a well behaved cross posting client. But support for images is still iffy. #crossposting

I commend the folks at @openvibe.social. It's not easy to write a crossposting platform for both Mastodon and Bluesky. The app spits out errors every so often, but I think it's because each platform evolves independently.
