Some shady business between W and the EC, in my personal opinion.
What we conclude from these documents is that the Commission’s response to @leafplaza.eu did not explain the relationship between its communications decision, its bilateral engagement with W Social, and its wider policy work (or disclose the criteria governing those different activities).
🔔 The news are out. @leafplaza.eu got its own notification backend, hosted in the EU. * Try the LeafPlaza app with your Bluesky account (via the custom server option). * Or support us with an account in our server for less than a coffee in Vienna.
Hereby I want to grant the first "Pablo Soria Rojas World Peace Price" to W Social.
Our CEO and co-founder Prof. Dr. Anna Zeiter @anna.wsocial.eu has received the European Future Award 2026 for Innovation & Business. 🇪🇺 Presented at the inaugural ceremony in Berlin today, the award recognises her work advancing Europe’s digital independence through W Social.

Quite impressed so far by the @leafplaza.eu app for iOS. After the launch of @eurosky.social, this is another step towards #digitalsovereignty!
This has always been theoretically possible. There are plenty of examples where verifications happen without exchanging and then storing any sensitive data. This does not take away the complexity of this implementation, bravo @robin.berjon.com Also, it says a lot about the W architectural design.
This is just the demo (come see us presenting it with @vdbdavid.eurosky.social at www.vlaanderen.be/trefdag-vlaa... next week!) but: - Optional ID verification - Only showed my ID to the government, super easy with myGov.be - My details aren't stored on protocol
The point of verification is to ensure there is a responsible human behind an account. W's approach is dumb and dangerous but ultimately result of poor decision making. The whole ID thing + W's involvement is a mistake by the EC and the EPP. Leaders should be held responsible.
Oh lol, I misunderstood this dialog at first, so there's actually *no option* to not make your nationality & age public?… 🫠

Needs visibility @leafplaza.eu
If you are a @wsocial.eu user and concerned about your private data being listed publicly, found this link by @wdonthavetime.selfhosted.social that lets you see what data is visible on the open web #WSocial #WSocialFacts #Wned wdonthavetime.tngl.io/wsocial-wned/
Have a Bluesky account? Try @leafplaza.eu with it. If you like it, support us with a LeafPlaza account and migrate - a full year is about the cost of a coffee. Or don't. Just keep using it with your Bluesky account. Do what you want, I am not your mom.
I’m starting to think our biggest competitor is the thought of creating another social media account. You can try @leafplaza.eu with your existing AT Protocol account. Same account, different app. Now I need to get better at explaining it 😂
I worked in B2B SaaS in the past and we feared the store reviews. W seems to not fear anything, keeps doing awful stuff. This time leaking private data. Is this freepass from their client, the EC? If I were a client I would be complaining.
Those W app store reviews are not getting better anytime soon.

Less Google in your stack is definitely a win
@leafplaza.eu 1.7 moves in-app translation from Google Translate to DeepL. The experience stays simple. Tap Translate and keep reading. Behind the scenes, the stack is more European. 🇪🇺 LeafPlaza in Estonia. DeepL in Germany. @scaleway.com in France. Better UX, cleaner architecture, more control.

In a world full of funky leaders wanting to establish their own banana republics, anybody wants to have access to read even the text in your shower gel. What if Europe could offer "privacy as a service" to the world and make some tech champions on the way?
Europe can use privacy as a competitive advantage in the global tech market.
@eldiario.es quizás os interesaría revisar este tema sobre conflictos de interés en la Comisión EU. Encantado de haceros llegar más información y documentación.

My take here is that everybody should pick a battle and go with it against the Commission on this matter. Only public pressure will force their hand to bring transparency and maybe some sort of correction.
This is our blog article explaining why @leafplaza.eu filed a complaint against the @ec.europa.eu after their public endorsement of @wsocial.eu and missing transparency in the process. We hope @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu takes this matter seriously. leafplaza.leaflet.pub/3moxlxlfl2s2a
Political Sciences degrees are not only useful to serve fast food, they are also useful for these kind of things. (nervously laughs with two political sciences degrees)
@leafplaza.eu just presented an official complain. Also, setup a whole chain of official follow ups on this complain. We know our rights, no other European ATP project has been giving the advantage W Social received and that goes against Commission Decision (EU) 2024/3083 - Art. 4.

@leafplaza.eu was at the #europcom today, but we could not ask any question. So we ask the questions we had for @anna.wsocial.eu and @wsocial.eu here 👇

Our website is getting an overhaul. No disruption is expected, but changes here and there will be visible for the next couple of days. In the meanwhile, why not check our Transparency Page? If something is wrong or off, ping us. That's the whole point of that page! www.leafplaza.eu/transparency/

It is quite simple to understand If something is somewhat *legally* tied to a US company or individual, it's a subject to the US Cloud Act, hence not sovereign So even if there is a technical barrier, the association of Google to this project makes it non-sovereign www.reuters.com/business/aer...

Here are some thoughts we have at LeafPlaza about Attie, Bluesky's AI project.
I am divided in between watching @attie.ai (so what I know what they are up to) or block them. So I guess @leafplaza.eu will block them and I will follow them. I stay behind the lines, folks. Wish me luck. I will report back.
Maybe another day I will tell you the fascinating story of releasing an app from scratch in both Google Play and Apple App Store. And why it is so hard. Maybe even @jake.app.leafplaza.eu can chip in too. But today, we serve the main course at lunch time! @leafplaza.eu
LeafPlaza is cooking tonight. Stay tuned for tomorrow! 🍳
