We've just done the usual Friday sync. There's not a whole lot to mention, given we just did a sync a couple days ago. #Solus #Linux #OpenSource #FOSS - Evan

Solus Updates - Emergency Mid-Week Please update asap!

Solus@getsolus.bsky.social

Heya folks! We're doing an emergency mid-week sync to address the recent ca-certs issue, and the PHP issue. You can probably expect more random updates over the coming days as more affected packages are found and updated. discuss.getsol.us/d/13080-week... #FOSS #Linux #Solus #OpenSource - Evan

It has been about 6 months since I joined the #Solus team. I could not ask for a better group of people to work with. It truly has rekindled the fire in me working on open-source and Linux again.

My thoughts on #KDE Plasma 6.8 and the removal of X11... Sometimes the only way to fix the remaining gaps is for it to be forced by removing the old system. It can be harsh, but nothing makes people find a way to fix things like necessity. #OpenSource #Linux

One big myth of #OpenSource is that you have to have the ability to code to help. While you need developers, you also often need people who can test, organize, write documentation, help with support, and more.

I try not to let things get to me, but the fact that they are now openly causing harm to other #OpenSource projects fuck #omarchy and good bye @digitalocean.com which I had used for business and personal needs for over 7 years.

Open Source projects are facing infrastructure trouble. itsfoss.com/newsletter/f...

Love to see this. When a corporation doesn't do the right thing and tries to erase its #OpenSource project in favor of its new proprietary project, the strength of the FOSS community wins. Well done, @rockylinux.org

A little sneak peak of Solseek the TUI package manager for #Solus 1.6.1 bringing in UI updates, including themes. #Linux #OpenSource

I am not an influencer. I follow more than follow me on social media. I don't have a name that will get people to just donate money to #Solus. None of that bothers me. I am who I am, and I enjoy contributing to an #OpenSource #Linux distro that people can use. I don't expect anything in return.

I think some of us, and I have myself get, caught up on something that may not be deserving of getting an influx of funds and feel like it is not fair. It probably isn't, but many like me never got into this for that. Sure I want funds to go to better projects, but that is not in my hands.

I enjoy making something for others. That is why I got into open source in the first place and why I am so happy to be back involved with it again. Getting upset and the drama does nothing positive.

Got to love a government that kills small businesses since they can't really donate to their precious campaign funds just so that the billion-dollar corporations can ink out a few more cents on their bottom line.

Try reaching out to #Vultr on a question regarding a small instance for our community, trying to replace DigitalOcean. Nothing but crickets. I use them for my business (put that in the request), but I didn't expect a yes. But not responding for over a week is frustrating. Oh well the search goes on

Solseek - TUI Package Manager for Solus Solseek has moved to Codeberg. GitHub will remain a mirror, but all issues, contributions, and the wiki have moved. I could go into detail on why, but the TLDR is accurate: microsoft. #Solus #OpenSource #Linux #Codeberg codeberg.org/clintre/sols...

Resiliency is only truly known when the shit actually hits the fan. It is one of the major things that first brought me to use Solus and ultimately join the team. It has gone through the rough seas and come out the other side, proven. I am proud to be working alongside some truly wonderful people.

Contributing to Linux & open source can be rewarding, but you have to have thick skin at times. Many have no idea the commitment it can take & can often ignore all the good for one issue that they have. But you know what. I still love what I am doing. Not going to let stuff like that get me down.

It is sad that now when I see the phrase "I built this app" I immediately think that, no, AI built the app. I know that is not always the case, and there are some great devs out there, but I see this so often I've become cynical. Not long ago, I was excited to see that in the open source community

Heading out on vacation for 10 days. Looking forward to disconnecting a bit and celebrating 30 years with my wife. Who says Linux users don't go out and touch grass?
