I've designed and am trying to mass produce fans for cr-box style air purifiers, which are far far quieter for greater airflow than the usual box fans. About 10% more flow for 1/220 the noise energy (24 db). Www.bigquietfan.com

The bqf progress is going great except it's so slow. But I'm taking a detour to basalt get my own little manufacturing shop online so yeah that takes a while. My main concern is the cost of things. I don't get subsidies and shit like big companies do...

So fucked up. Criminals at the helm. Overhaul everything, throw them all out and get decent people in.

It is very distressing to learn that the BC government is cutting support for essential virtual services for long COVID. For the more than 300,000 British Colombians this is a poorly considered and devastating set back. More funding, not less is needed for long COVID care! @covidsociety.ca

Ok but there diy measurements are off by 26% compared with their lab measurements, and you can see it's partly because their protocol is no good. No control run for instance. For all we know if they don't know how to do it it may be the lab measurements that are borked... Neither means much.

Her obituary in Stat has links to some of her stories. I remember the last week in Jan 2020 listening to the cdc press conferences and hearing Helen ask questions. I was so impressed so I looked her up and have been reading her work since. www.statnews.com/2026/10/13/h... via @statnews.com

Leaving an Aranet 4 CO2 logger in a classroom proved that ventilation was not functioning. In some cities you can even borrow one of these meters from the public library! Tag me if you'd like help interpreting the results.

Heat pumps are pretty awesome but solar thermal is definitely better. So are ervs. Better roi, whether it's dollars or kWh you are after. I'm a way this is just politics, then. I mean it's good that it's kind of aligning with what really matters but it also isn't, is it. Not very well.

Dick Zoutman@dickzoutman.bsky.social

This is a great program! But would like to see much more investment like this! Solar panels, batteries, electric cars etc! Good one @mark-carney.bsky.social ! 🇨🇦 Keep-’em coming!

Another one to add to the list of studies of CR boxes! The supplemental data includes inferred CADR for each unit deployed as well as sound pressure measurements in two classrooms at several distances.

The hilarious thing is that no matter what he did he would be the worst at it ever. Yet somehow he got shooped into a job that is normally expected to go to a skilled and respectable person

Mrs. Newsom is correct. That's an accurate-as-hell description of Pedolf Shitler.

Dolly Parton seems awesome but I hope she would agree, given her political efforts, that hero and celebrity are not good for the cause of justice or indeed almost anything, in general. Remember the enormous number of invaluable women who toil for the benefit of all without a shred of fame.

After all this time, people still have not even begun to clue in to the reality not only of climate change but more critically the underlying causes of the inaction to address it. The ruling class maintains their grip on both the bodies and minds of the great majority.

41 years ago, Carl Sagan gave a clear and elegant explanation of the science behind global warming.

I've very nearly run out of stuff to do on the bqf project. We should have started making the molds five months ago or something. I've been able to work around that but it hasn't been very efficient. In maybe two weeks I'll really be reduced to complete waiting.

Yes please do. I noticed there is a very unusual streak of irresponsibility in American culture. But the lunatics are actually your neighbors etc and nobody else can solve this problem. Either you do it or it doesn't get done, and you go down too.

The oil has to stay in the ground anyway. The only thing that bothers me is that the infrastructure in the aggressor country is bound to be untouched.

It never ceases to amaze me how much people complain about the price of oil going up. Unfortunately it's become abundantly clear people are not going to stop burning so much oil without that happening. They've had time, the deadline has long past.

Pilot kit production has begun for the big quiet fan. Pilot means the method will change. The general plan is to keep going and change the approach over time to reduce cost and increase production rate. By subbing in molded parts for instance, that's the first major stop.

But remember there are many many more women who have and today do have the capacity to do this kind of thing and more and yet are denied the opportunity to even try. We need to stop the hero worship thing for the future, that can be done while appreciating the heros of the past.

Chemist & X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin's meticulous research was instrumental in uncovering DNA's molecular structure. Most famous for her role in the DNA double helix discovery, her work also revolutionized our understanding of viruses & coal. She was born #OTD in 1920. #WomenInSTEM 🧵

He did not die unknown, he is well remembered. And this is not sustainable ok, we can't keep depending on the extremely rare heros to solve this kind of absolute insanity. Vast damage was done by the lead to several generations.

The only way at this point is to stop fossil fuel infrastructure, as trump is doing. Maybe that's what they are doing? I somehow doubt they are that smart.

Charles Keener@charleskeener.bsky.social

Climate change is not a mythical creature. It's science. You either *understand * it or you don't. Big Oil companies have known about climate change for decades, but continue to destroy our planet for profit. It’s time to make big polluters pay for the damage they have done to our precious planet.

And if anyone is hoping that people will wake up and do something more sensible, I submit that if squirrels suddenly got organized their lives would also improve greatly. But they are squirrels. That will not happen.

You also *let* them do that in broad daylight for how long? That doesn't sound like enforcing the law. When everyone is allowed to shoplift whatever they want their whole lives and pay some tiny fraction of it later, then ok, I guess.

Man progress on the bqf really has been too slow. We aren't immortal.... For a meeting hopefully early next week, sounds like finding for some molds is hopefully ok. Also I uh further improved the blades a bit.

It's trimming the tips of the blades. I had frankly wanted to do cfd for a long time but it's very slow to do it locally and the only other cloud platform wanted $10k for a license. Bramble may be $15 per simulation or something, hopefully. Usually takes an hour or two tops.

I grant that significant improvement at this late stage kind of indicates inadequate exploration earlier on. I am pursuing CFD using BrambleCFD asap to check things in detail, mop up the value in this latest feature I discovered helps, and see if any further is possible.

Alas nobody told anyone. We just did not know. Maybe nobody knew?

I was mocked when I included this IPCC finding in my book, but I do understand that it can seem unbelievable. So I’m sharing it again, in this heatwave, noting also that 3C heating is twice what we have now, and the impacts of global heating are non-linear. #EndFossilFuels

Probably worth mentioning you can kill everyone in the room before anyone even realizes what's happening if you use too much and/or have sufficiently poor ventilation

I buy way too much stuff on Amazon but when I review my purchases and see if there was another way, there isn't really. The solution is to nationalize it. They are doing something useful that other people can't figure out, they are just being abusive/criminal in the process.

You'd need approximately 3.3 per classroom to meet ashrae 241 and also ansi 12.60 (noise) at the same time. More if you need 40 cfm per person or more (outbreak scenario) and it's a large class.

Clean Air Where@cleanairwhere.bsky.social

It's so hilarious how much everyone appreciated Obama now. He did do a ton of evil shit though, don't forget that, I'm not American so I don't consider it a responsibility to be that well versed on the subject but iirc he was no angel either, just so so much less bad.

I'm not a big fan of complaining about the environmental impact of data centres because the reality is it's what they are going to be used for that is the real doozy. People don't have the discipline to just focus on what really matters.

Presumably people focus on these things because they assume everyone is selfish and short sighted and won't move ass otherwise. But they are ultimately weak arguments and can be worked around relatively easily. Then what are you going to do?

It's really time to make the first mold for the bqf. I'm waiting for funding approval. If it doesn't come through I can still use resin casting, but if I proceed with that now and funding comes through it would have been a real waste of time.

In a way it's hilarious people are surprised though. The American gov and esp military is a bunch of genocidal psychos that murder little girls all the time. You really can't expect a shred of decency in any way shape or form. Shun them or get eaten.

This subject comes up every once in a while. People always think a return to some supposed golden age is the answer. I don't. We should leapfrog ahead to good engineering, leveraging the best tools and infrastructure there is.

Bring back single function devices. And gas stations that only sell gas. Thanks. #SmartIsDumb #PlannedObsolescence

There has been a lot of progress in many ways. Cold water detergent for instance, in this specific subject. Front loading washers and high speed spins really are better, they just do a bad job with these silly pneumatic seals etc. I would just let the door rotate, a second outer door for safety.

We *were* looking at all this stuff at ose. And water recycling and so on. And much more. We even had a specific project for open source laundry machine. Laundry machines have an interesting history and we learned all about it and found promising ways forward. They were not a return to the past.
