Bring that price-performance to your apps and agents, from interpreting technical drawings and analyzing images to navigating interfaces and automating visual workflows. For specialized coding, research, and deeper reasoning tasks, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra remain our most capable models.

GPT-6.1 Terra substantially outperforms GPT-5.6 Terra on Agents’ Last Exam, a test of how well agents use software at work. It even matches GPT-6 Astra at one-tenth the price per token and finishes tasks over 3× faster on average than both Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.

GPT-6.1 Terra continues to advance the cost-intelligence frontier across our model families. It’s a significant step up over GPT‑5.6 Terra, with 50% lower standard API prices.

In ChatGPT Work and Codex, your usage allowance goes further with GPT‑6.1 Terra than with GPT‑5.6 Terra—and far more than with GPT‑6.1 Sol or GPT‑6 Astra. For in-depth research or complex coding, choose GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Astra.

We built ChatGPT’s ad stack to respond to an evolving conversation, while ensuring answers stay independent. Here’s how the LLM orchestrator, retrieval, ranking and auction tools work together.

During this red-teaming exercise, we also found a vulnerability that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution in Brotli, a widely-deployed compression library included in many pieces of software such as Node.js, Bun, and Envoy.

Since Brotli is built into other software, any software which includes this library needs to take the update too, followed by the users of that software.

That is, an unpatched server that accepts compressed input could be taken over by a malicious client, and an unpatched client that accepts compressed input (such as “curl --compressed”) could be taken over by a malicious server.

This root cause issue was actually fixed in the Brotli source code in February, but it wasn’t known at the time that it gave rise to a security vulnerability and there was no more recent release of Brotli.

The flaw could let an attacker run their own code on affected systems by sending or replying with malicious compressed data, without any need to create a user account.

While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents.

On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further.

We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments.

We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications.

We serve data in milliseconds to more than 1.2 billion users across 40 geographic regions. To reach that scale, we worked closely with @AzureCosmosDB on our storage architecture, achieving a 12x improvement in global median read latency.

We reserved broad replication for small, critical datasets like authentication metadata needed on every request. In-region caches served frequently accessed data, such as settings and application state. Lastly, rewriting the service layer in Rust reduced proxy overhead.

Add near real-time decisions to your workflow with the Decisions API, now generally available. Build faster, more cost-efficient apps and agents that can classify text and images, evaluate inputs, and determine what happens next without generating a full model response.

Let your app choose the right model, tool, or action in near real-time with Decisions API, now available to all developers in public beta. The Decisions API makes decisions up to 10x faster than GPT-6 Luna through the Responses API.

Since the beta, we’ve added new capabilities to the Decisions API so you can now use: • Native GPT-Live integration so voice apps can react as people speak. • Prompt caching to help lower costs when reusing context. • Native JSON inputs so you can pass structured app data directly.

Community banks deserve advanced tools to keep their operations safe. Through Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, we’re partnering with @ICBA to help community banks access AI-powered cyber defenses—and the training and support to use them.

icba.orgICBA, OpenAI Announce Strategic Alliance to Bring Frontier AI Cybersecurity Capabilities to Community BanksWashington, D.C. (Oct. 22, 2026) — The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and OpenAI today announced a landmark strategic alliance to help community banks access AI-enabled cybersecurity capabilities, training, and peer-to-peer engagement. The alliance builds on ICBA’s broader advocacy to ensure community banks are included as advanced AI capabilities are developed and deployed. Earlier this year, ICBA led development of the Secure and AI-Ready America Action Plan, which called for federal action to address AI-enabled cybersecurity risks and expand access to advanced defensive capabilities for critical infrastructure providers. The partnership connects that priority with OpenAI’s Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, creating a pathway for community banks to access advanced cyber capabilities, training, and technical support. “Community banks do not need to navigate the AI era alone,” ICBA President and CEO Rebeca Romero Rainey said. “Through our new alliance, ICBA and OpenAI are helping ensure community bankers have a seat at the table as some of the world’s most advanced cybersecurity capabilities are developed and deployed. Our members will have opportunities to learn directly from leading AI experts, explore defensive capabilities, and share lessons learned so they can make informed decisions that strengthen the resilience of their institutions and the communities they serve.” “Protecting America’s financial infrastructure means making sure community banks have access to advanced tools to defend it,” said Sasha Baker, Head of National Security Policy at OpenAI. “Through Daybreak for Frontline Defenders and our work with ICBA, we’re helping put AI-powered cyber defenses within reach of the banks that Main Street depends on—with the training and support to use them effectively. The strength of a bank’s defenses shouldn’t depend on the size of its technology budget.” What this Alliance Means for Community Banks Through this alliance, eligible ICBA member banks will have a pathway to explore OpenAI's Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, which is designed to support defensive cybersecurity work, including vulnerability identification and validation, threat investigation, authorized security testing, remediation support, risk prioritization, and other cybersecurity workflows. The alliance will also provide ICBA-member community banks with: Subsidized access to Daybreak for Frontline Defenders for eligible institutions in accordance with OpenAI’s program requirements. ICBA member-exclusive education and training with OpenAI experts. ICBA's new AI Show-n-Tell sessions, providing a practical forum for community banks to demonstrate real-world AI use cases, discuss implementation challenges, and share lessons learned. The AI Adoption group on ICBA Community, ICBA’s peer-to-peer network of more than 8,000 community bankers allowing members to exchange resources, questions, and practical experiences. Together, ICBA and OpenAI aim to make advanced cybersecurity capabilities more practical and accessible for community banks, whether an institution is ready to explore frontier AI today or is still developing its AI strategy. As these technologies evolve, ICBA and OpenAI will continue working to identify sustainable, cost-effective approaches that enable community banks of varying sizes and technical maturity to participate and benefit. More information about the ICBA-OpenAI strategic alliance, Daybreak for Frontline Defenders, and resources for community banks is available on the ICBA and OpenAI websites. About ICBA The Independent Community Bankers of America® has one mission: to create and promote an environment where community banks flourish. We power the potential of the nation’s community banks through effective advocacy, education, and innovation. As local and trusted sources of credit, America’s community banks leverage their relationship-based business model and innovative offerings to channel deposits into the neighborhoods they serve, creating jobs, fostering economic prosperity, and fueling their customers’ financial goals and dreams. We built ChatGPT’s ad stack to respond to an evolving conversation, while ensuring answers stay independent. Here’s how the LLM orchestrator, retrieval, ranking and auction tools work together.

The orchestrator turns a conversation into multiple intents by exploring the users’ possible needs. Embedding-based search finds candidate ads, then eligibility and relevance checks narrow the pool. The auction tool handles final selection and pricing.
