An abundance of autumn splendor in Montreal today on the campus of The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) My University of Delaware hat is in the spirit of the season, even if doesn’t quite match the tree above Looking forward to seeing past friends and meeting new ones at #ASHG26 #ASHG

What Instrument Protocol Did I Actually Use? Complex protocols for individual instruments, such as PCR profiles for thermocyclers, are often saved to instruments. But how do you know the protocol you wanted is the one you requested? omicsomics.blogspot.com/2026/09/what...

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Avocados come in 2 varieties - A-types start each day female and switch to male midday. B-types do the reverse. In work just published from the last chapter of my PhD, we show this system evolved 40+million yrs ago and is regulated by alleles of 1 transcription factor www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

A fun image processing distraction today -- how to clean up the noisy background of a photo of a microfilm of a medieval manuscript? Thread, in which I use Photoshop, but similar tools are available in GIMP and other image processing software.

Got a bit of a range in quality, though much of the same type—the first picture is more or less usable, the second is tough going (especially because a lot of the words are abbreviated, so it's important to see details).

📣Huge preprint 🔔 Today we share something our group has been working toward for a long time, led by @lucasmoriniere.bsky.social We asked can we predict which receptor a phage targets from its genome sequence alone? For most phages, we couldn’t. So Lucas set out to do something I had only dreamed of.

$44/gene enzymatic function test with just $799 assay configuration!!! ~$5K & we will boot your assay & run full 96 well plate experiment! How many enzymatic reactions does this entice you to deorphan?

Less than two weeks until #AGBTAg26 ! Looking forward to planting @Ginkgo flag there - may many productive discussions bloom around autonomous laboratories and cloud lab services!

They had one a long time ago. About 15 years or so ago I played around with something in R to pull down data via API. It was half baked even then, guess they decided ti unbake it altogether

2. I don't mind if people don't want to use Rust but instead of rewriting it from scratch every single time, why don't you write bindings and make them available for everyone? This is both easier and more maintainable, and would actually be helpful for the community.
