My employer has decided that they'd rather split my salary between two people outside the US than continue paying for me, so I'm staring down the barrel of unemployment at the end of this month (again). This is bad news for my immediate financial needs, but good news for my writing time. [1/2]

Grinding you down is the point. The tech companies doing this are hoping you'll get tired and give up. So don't give up, even if you're tired. The best way to hold this crap at bay is to stop upgrading and buying new devices until Big Tech removes these features.

My name is Cameron Bear, and I'm the author of Beasts & Brutality. (It's currently in the final editing stages with my publisher.) And I am proud of landing my first book contract! I'm also proud that my characters are unabashedly gay, bi, etc. Pull no punches, folks.

I don't know if this is "weird" so much as "my life" (which IS undoubtedly weird). Growing up as a Western kid in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia during the 1980s influenced my story "The Beasts at the Oasis." I actually used a few things I learned in my social studies classes there.

1. Write 1,000 words per day, Monday through Friday, per my usual schedule. 2. Continue chiseling at the Aeon Timeline file for my retro "weird fiction" furry novella set on Venus. (I wrote the first draft over ten years ago, and it needs serious revision.) 3. Find a better day job!

Dear people who are worried about mass censorship on Bluesky, which is pseudo-federated through chokepoints so The Company can stifle any kind of speech it dislikes: I told you so. Repeatedly. #Mastodon remains my primary social media, because I can *actually* control it without gatekeepers.

This @pbs.org segment is an informative yet disturbing watch. I knew some of the ways data centers affect communities, but this goes in DEPTH. It showcases the impact to those living near these data centers, the cruelty and audacity of the tech companies themselves. A very important watch!

I'm going to give everyone a bit of context-free professional advice today: If a hiring manager bad-mouths their whole team and says the company is dysfunctional, but offers you more money to join and promises they're fixing things... RUN. RUN AWAY AND BLOCK THEIR MESSAGES. I wish I had.

#Hoopla (a digital service the Fort Vancouver #Library System uses) sent a promotional message today about titles I might want to check out. One of them was Krypto: the Last Dog of Krypton. Boy, did they ever know their audience. The covers alone made my day. We need more hope in these dark times.
