It's worth remembering that the majority of Trump's political career can be traced to Obama thoroughly roasting him in 2011

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"

They're really overplaying their hand by repeatedly claiming that schools are now doing gender reassignment surgery. That litter box thing from a few years ago was stupid but at least that plausibly fit within the bounds of a school budget.

This kid gives me the vibe of a freshman in their intervarsity college Christian group who just read a chapter on apologetics and thinks they have a slam dunk case until they try it out on a single person not in the group

Adam Gurri@adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com

El-Sayed handled this so well I almost started thinking this guy was a plant lol but apparently not www.thehandbasket.co/p/tommy-teep...

It is difficult to go on a right wing sycophant show like Hannity and still sound like wet dogshit. It reminds me of when Chaya Raichik went on Tucker and could barely speak English. Fox has always been a cesspool but it's meant for a different kind of brainworms than the extremely online right.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

oh my god this interview was a disaster for Zacharia. I've never seen Hannity do someone who works for Trump like this

Say what you will about Piker, but he sticks up for Omar more than the vast majority of her congressional colleagues which is absolutely necessary at this moment

And they're not even doing it from a leftist or progressive space necessarily. Ossoff is barely left of center but he has the audacity to actually be honest about his opponents.

A.R. Moxon@juliusgoat.bsky.social

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.

Maybe we could get Klob to react to this with appropriate anger and urgency if, instead of agents of the state acting on nothing but racist innuendo against a duly elected official in the state she wants to govern, we said they were interns

Amy Klobuchar@amyklobuchar.com

The timing of this raid and reports that a White House official was involved raise serious questions that should concern all Americans, regardless of political party.

Odd Future Wolfgang Pauli reposted

There will be a lot of equivocating about all the times search warrants have been executed on members of Congress for corruption investigations and the like, and it can't be stressed enough in how many ways HSI raiding Ilhan Omar is extremely not like that.

Ossoff's effectiveness comes from being an attractive normie who does not pretend to respect his opponent or have any pretense of appealing to MAGA. He'll peel off some MAGA voters but not because he's condescending to them.

Bill McKibben@billmckibben.bsky.social

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

You don't have to like Bill Burr or his recent performance at a certain comedy festival to notice the significance of him, as the type of guy who complains about woke millennials, being aligned with one of the most prominent woke millennials of the 2010s

The Tennessee Holler @thetnholler.bsky.social

🔥 BILL BURR: “How big does your yacht have to be? PAY THE WORKERS.” (From @marcofoster.bsky.social )

Minimalist rhythm sections are very hard to pull off, particularly when you're in a double act with a frontman who insists on being as odd as possible. The discipline and restraint is at least as impressive as any drum solo I've ever heard.

Obviously these people never cared about integrity in women's sports or whatever even in their idealized case of the league being all straight cis women with a few troublesome LGBTQ+, when the reality is that the league is about 1/3 openly queer

Expanding the court is maybe the one issue where I think elected dems - even the most antiquated centrists - are ahead of the normies

James Clyburn says on @meetthepress.com that he supports adding four seats to the Supreme Court: “A baker’s dozen would be a good number to have on the court.”

Will Ridley Scott make another good Alien movie? Maybe. But I think my enthusiasm for another Alien project from him is less about whether it's good and more about his overall energy. I respect a man who is almost 90 and still wants to make movies about gooey penis monsters and devious androids.

Ridley Scott said Alien: Romulus "was OK," so he's returning to the Alien franchise because it "needs some help." https://bit.ly/4xu5czC

Transphobia is the uniting principle of the right. Tariffs, Epstein, Iran, even ICE, these have all had some rifts, but everyone agrees on transphobia. It united the right in the early days of Biden too, before inflation took over.

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

Does it seem like trans panic got promoted to the conservative culture war top spot when pedophile panic got real awkward for them?

This could most charitably be interpreted as a statement on vibes. She wasn't "neutral" in any meaningful sense, but she was always happy and framed her views positively, whereas most people who share her demographics and have thoughts on culture war issues are visibly miserable.

CNN@cnn.com

"At a time when no American celebrity seems immune from the country’s many divisions, Dolly Parton was a crossover icon who stayed neutral in the culture wars while still speaking her mind," writes Zachary B. Wolf. | Analysis

For my money, my most lasting impression of Tim Curry is as the personification of pollution in FernGully: The Last Rainforest. And maybe I'm taking the wrong message here, but I believe the point of that movie is that pollution is sexy and cool.

20 years since a still-usable Facebook, still populated mostly by elder millennial college students, became the source of countless groups about how this was the touchstone of a '90s childhood

Maybe it's because I saw the Raimi Spiderman movies while living in Minnesota but I've always thought of Spiderman as a Minnesotan. Living now in NYC, I know being from an outer borough is basically the same as being from Minnesota.

AI and evangelicals are equally important allies to fascism at this point, so I suspect we're going to see a lot more unhinged arguments riffing on the antichoice "potential life" framing but for chatbots

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

Oh, you say you care are about genocide? So why do you remain silent about the ethnic cleansing of future AI people.

Right wing politicians have a much more mutualistic relationship with their influencers, and since the press accepts the right wing framing on everything else, they assume the same dynamic must exist on the left, where the relationship is usually antagonistic if it exists at all.

We're living in a much dumber and less fun version of Marge vs. the Monorail. At least Lyle Lanley put some effort into selling his scam product.

Laugh it up libs, I actually respect someone who takes up the egregious amount of extra space in a typical SUV

Everyone in the Trump administration believed a mindless show of military might would cow Iran into submission, and it did not occur to any of them that Iran understands them infinitely better than they understand Iran.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump launched the Iran war with a grandiose video talking about regime change and destroying Iran’s capabilities. Six months later, he’s proven to be so weak that the US can’t even keep the Strait of Hormuz open. An absolutely resounding defeat.

Anyone who denies that whatever we're calling "woke 1" was instrumental in electing Biden is a willfully obtuse moron. This isn't ancient history! A lot of people alive now were also alive six years ago!

Everyone assumes Hong must be gunning for squishy republican votes because that's how centrist dems run. Instead she's running an unapologetically working class campaign which, like Mamdani, will likely attract some republicans just because it's honest and not condescending.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Were you prepared for pushback you received, especially from Republicans, framing you as too extreme for Wisconsin? HONG: What's extreme is Rep. Tiffany has voted against interests of Wisconsinites over & over. What's extreme is that he's an election denier & continues to protect pedophiles

My wife's cousin, an extremely normie midwesterner who never talks about politics, just made a fawning post about him because he is a "U of M boy." If Islamophobia is not your number one issue I think whities will get on board with the hot doctor with more midwest bonafides than Stevens.

We could get to a point where all majors except finance are eliminated and the only people allowed to attend college come from crypto dynasties and the NYT would pump out the exact same op eds about how universities are too ideologically rigid

New York Times Opinion@nytopinion.nytimes.com

“The college experience has become more political than ever, albeit in more subtle and ultimately more insidious ways,” the sociologist Neil Gross writes.

One consistent thing about Trump is he obviously doesn't care about the Republican Party on an institutional level so he kind of gets a thrill when they take a shelling for any election in which he is not explicitly on the ballot

TAPPER: Do you know what a tall order it is to believe that 3 women who don't know each other made up accusations of you being violent, and you are telling the truth and they are all lying? That's difficult to believe, right? MAX MILLER: No. Not in this instance.

It's a huge insult to snake oil salesmen to refer to Sam Altman as a snake oil salesmen. They actually have to develop charm and social skills to be good at their jobs, he just gets on twitter and is like "look, I can't even talk to my own kids much less you vermin."
