I finally saw the owl swoop out of the oak tree, across Parkside and into a tree on the east side of Akin Park. I listened to owl sounds & it sounded like a great horned owl. I know there has been one living in the park for several years. That thing is freaking huge.

There's some sort of big-assed owl hooting out from the oak tree in my backyard. I've been out there twice and I haven't been able to spot it. I hope it doesn't snatch somebody's cat or small doggo.

Just got a letter from Trump telling me I'm getting a one-time $90 check to offset Medicare costs. Honestly, I'd like to return it refuting everything in the letter. But he'd never see it. So, if I actually get a check it's getting donated; probably the Tri-State Food Bank or Animal Control.

I cleaned off the top shelf of the cabinets next to the stove. Recycled some plastic cups & put other stuff in the donate pile. I got the basil harvested & into ice cube trays in the freezer. Put out the trash/recycling. Got the registration sticker on the license plate. I think I'm done for today.

The sage, rosemary, mint and oregano can stand the cooler temperatures. I'll to winter over the sage, rosemary & oregano in the plastic greenhouses. I'll may make the mint into a syrup. The extreme heat really hurt it this summer.

It's sunny & 66 degrees. I was sitting on the deck harvesting basil to make into pesto for vacuum sealing/freezing. (Came in the house to take my vitamins.) I'm basically grinding up the basil w/pecans & olive oil. I'll add the garlic & parmesan when I actually use it.

I put flannel sheets back on the bed yesterday. Then I added the quilt my late mom had on her bed. (She won it at a quilt bingo.) It was in the low 40s last night, 62 in the house when I awoke. Slept like a log. I didn't hear the fire engines arrive for a stove fire in the next block around 8 a.m.

I looked at the forecast & it appears tonight is the only chance of frost for a bit, so I decided againt harvesting the basil for a few days. I just covered it, the thyme & the rest of the herbs. Plus it's been pretty breezy today & if that stays the same it lessens the chance of frost.

It was 65 degrees in the house when I finally woke up this morning. I turned on the heat just to get the chill out of the house. I woke up around 6 when Briscoe left the blanket & jumped on my feet. Benson was already curled up in the bend in my knees. I guess they were cold.

Got a little nippy in here so I had to shut the windows. Briscoe discovered the blanked & decided it was the perfect place to make biscuits Then he hunkered down in it & went to sleep. I won't disturb him. I'll get a quilt down out of the closet.

There was a woman driving a semi on the Ray Becker Parkway yesterday who had to make a sharp right turn to go north on South Barker. I was waiting to turn left onto the Ray Becker; had a school bus next to me. That woman turned that 53-foot trailer on a dime. Just nailed it. I gave her a thumbs up!

A 17-year-old kid was shot dead Saturday night about 4 blocks SW of me. From all reports, he was a good kid. This afternoon U.S. Marshals arrested a guy, 18, in Morganfield,KY. He's awaiting extradiction on murder charges. Saturday night they detained two guys, 20 and 17. Make it make sense.

Proof of prices being crazy high. I like to keep a couple frozen Aldi breakfast bowls for when I feel lazy. Over the past 35 days the cost has risen from $1.69 to $1.85 and today they are $1.99. I can afford this but I won't buy on principle. I suspect the packaging is costly.

Well, this woke me up. "Spectral Eyes" is classic Blondie. Can't wait for this.

Second night in a row I couldn't fall asleep. Finally drifted off around 2:30, awoke at 5:59 and went back to sleep until 8:59. I feel a little draggy, but much better than yesterday on no sleep.

I was sitting here last night DMing a friend when I heard multiple gun shots coming from the west or southwest. Didn't hear any sirens, but when the cops arrived in the 800 block of Madison they found 17-year-old kid dead on the sidewalk. 6 blocks west of me. This shit is just crazy.

I got the old dog house scrubbed out. It's drying in the sun. When it's dry, I'll stuff it w/ straw from the bale in the back of my Outback. It'll be in the yard for the tabby cat to use if it wants. Some of the straw will help grass grow in the front yard bare patches.

I voted at Central library. Unfortunately I just missed city council reps Rita Taylor (my rep) & at large Mary Allen. I voted for Allen who is running for congress. I've spoken w/her a couple times & she is the real deal. She has put in the hard work; visited every nook & crany of the 8th district.

I wore my "I'm with the banned" tee shirt today. The librarians at East Branch loved it. I stopped in Central branch as well and it has a display of banned books folks can check out. Love it!

So the day starts with a kid barricaded in a restroom at Signature School who says he has a gun & will start shooting soon. Signature School is a charter school & annually is voted one of the top two charter schools in the country. It's a block, maybe, from the PD & the mayor's office.

Police completed a second sweep of Signature School and found nothing. Students will be reunited with parents at the Sycamore Street Parking Garage as EPD continues to sweep the building.

Just read the school corporation sent an email to parents stating it's actually a bomb threat. All students & school personnel have been accounted for & evacuated to C.K Newsom Center. This school is in a very old multiple-story building with lots of nooks & crannies.

I haven't seen the little tabby cat for a couple weeks. I looked out & saw it sitting on my deck. I gave it a half a can of soft food and when it finished that off I gave it some kibble. It's still extremely skittish.

A representative of the Indiana Communist Party just got up at the Evansville City Council meeting and read a statement objecting to data centers. Nobody wants these damn things in their community.

I finally got all the weeds/grass growing out the sidewalk cracks whacked. Recharging the battery to take care of some stuff in the backyard tomorrow. Having some PowerAde then I'm going to cut down some volunteers & blow all the debris up on the lawn.

Cat toy follow up. If your cat loves ping pong balls, Dollar Tree sells Halloween ones with eyeballs on them. (Red, blue or green eyeballs; I have the red.) You get a plastic bag full for $1.25-$1.50.

I'm seeing a lot of posts from people on here & on X who could not sleep last night. Thats seems a little weird. I feel like I'm in a zombi-like state so I'm having a bowl of Kroger pot roast soup to ground myself. Instantly feel better. I love this stuff!

The cat toy box looked a little sparse so I walked around the house and gathered up all the bouncy balls, ping pong balls and mousies. That might have been a big mistake because Benson discovered all the toys were back and commenced to batting balls aroud the house. At 11 p.m.
