"...whoever they are." #nzpol Ah, you've nailed it. ( and pre-empted my coming blogpost!)😬🤪😆

ive seen it mentioned a few places now that its apparently an "open secret" in the parliamentary precinct (including among media) that Winston Peters is struggling. If this is the case, then NZ voters are owed clarity on that, and it raises EVEN MORE questions about the constant PR coverage for NZF.

Well #ACT can get in the bin! Cutting #disability benefits. If everyone who is #disabled, our friends, families, people who work with us, and allies did not vote for them, it would at least mean something, even if it makes little difference to the outcome. #NZpol

Labour and Green supporters need to keep the focus on the coalition’s terrible record on cost of living, assault on public health and rising crime. Naidoo’s texts release feels like another daily but quirky distraction? So what? 1 of weirder National moves this election. #nzpol

Yet Nicola claimed that these were not accurate, that the 2023 figures had been changed & this was old data and the real data was worse so Labour still bad. Disinformation Nikki refuses to take responsibility. #nzpol

In economics we call this failure. In politics its called object failure and omnishambles. PREFU stands for Pre Election Fiscal Update and is given before each of our elections. You can work out who was in power for each PREFU yourself

Your reminder that agriculture accounts for roughly 6% of NZ's GDP & yet 53% of New Zealand's gross greenhouse gas emissions. I bloody love our farmers, but some of them don't half mind being beneficiaries of Govt money at times.

It would be really nice if, next time a Nat mouths off about “no new taxes”, a reporter would do a journalism and ask them “so what existing taxes, fees and levies are you gonna put up then?” #nzpol

Hey, hey it’s Monday that wonderful day of the year where we celebrate all that is good! Small to big wins with everything in between. Mine is that Ash got home this morning after playing for the NZ U17 team in Australia, they couldn’t quite pull off a medal and came 4th. What’s yours?

Regret to inform that multiple correspondents on RNZ's Facebook page suspect that the Green Party staged the whole thing. (By, I guess, hiring an anonymous stunt driver to drive around the barriers in front of an oncoming train, just as they announced the policy.) We live in the stupidest of times.

Point made, nobody harmed, but yikes that was close!😱 NZ Greens announcement – promising funding for urgently needed solutions to the many risky level crossings along Auckland’s Western Line – illustrated in real time at Morningside this morning. (Also, note the many modes of travel! 🚊🚗🚶🏻‍♀️🚲🛴) #nzpol

Oh that is sad Louise Upston. Last resort appeal to MP’s to help with MSD for constituents is impotent.🥀 Even MP’s cannot get closure for clients who have tried everything else. Trouble is the effect of delay always creates huge difficulty for the victims. #nzpol #nzpolitics #MSDBroken

So MBIE officials recommended spending less, but targeting the money towards local music festivals. And Louise Upston chose to spend much more, but hand it all to multinational companies and overseas artists.

Part of our lives here is assessing new cultivars from Mark's breeding programme. There are a couple of rather nice yellow magnolias in flower today. However, it is a very long way from first bloom to selection. If you think you have not seen a magnolia like these before, you are right. .

A slightly misleading headline – the bills are now before select committee. They won't pass this term. Urgency in this case reduced time between intro and first reading and was otherwise used similarly to extended sitting. Fair to critique this but don't conflate with skipping select committee.

The NZ Govt's doubled down on fossil fuels in a climate crisis. It weakened fuel efficiency standards on imported vehicles, did a go-slow on EV chargers, removed incentives for EVs, ended all funding for cycleways. Now petrol and diesel price rises are driving cost of living and inflation.

"This Bill removes the focus on the four ‘well-beings’ and puts councils back on core services like roading, infrastructure, water and rubbish" The four well-beings—no scare quotes needed!—were: the social, economic, environmental & cultural well-being of communities.
