Council Progressives call for permanent halt of MTA EAGLE deployments: "No one deserves to be tackled, beaten up, and dragged down the sidewalk, regardless of whether they have paid their bus fare or not." See our full statement below.

We’re excited to introduce our new Executive Director, Zachary Hendrickson! 💫 Zach comes from City Parks Foundation where he put millions of dollars into the hands of grassroots orgs through the NYC Green Fund. Together we’re going to deliver a safer, more affordable city for everyone.

NYC is at its best when the people who call it home can afford to stay here, live our lives with dignity, and feel safe in our communities. Join the Progressive Caucus on October 22 at 12pm to rally for an affordable, just, and safer city. See details below. #ProgressiveCaucus #AffordableCity #NYC

NYC, this is the agenda. The NYC Council Progressive Caucus is proud to roll out our legislative priorities for the year ahead, for a more affordable, just, and safer city. Read more about our legislative priorities at 🔗nycprogressives.com/legislative-priorities-26 or in the link in our bio

Legionnaires’ disease cases on New York City’s Upper East Side are rising. NYC’s DOH is testing and cleaning suspected water cooling towers. Seek medical attention for flu-like symptoms, especially seniors and immunocompromised people. Check the @nychealthy.bsky.social website for updates.

In a difficult year with limited resources, I appreciate @mayor.nyc.gov's honest accounting of our financial obligations and adeptly securing major support from Albany to balance the city’s budget. I’m pleased this budget has more money for our parks, CUNY, libraries, culturals, & local schools.

At today's Stated Meeting, I'm proud to have worked with my colleagues to pass Int. 580 -- my bill for a new Office of Child Care! I'm proud to work towards a child care system that is both accessible and universal -- through the Office of Child Care, we're one step closer to that goal.

Excellent reporting by @patrickspauster.com. If true, the CityFHEPS housing vouchers deal is a major step forward. 🙏 @cmpisanchez.bsky.social + @nycprogressives.bsky.social for holding the line, and to the many, many orgs (esp. @vocal-ny.bsky.social) for giving this fight force from the outside.

What to know about CityFHEPS deal: who will be newly eligible? It creates a new program for people at risk of eviction in rent stab housing + other shelter residents not eligible b/c of work requirements or income limits. The existing CFHEPS program remains the same. citylimits.org/city-to-expa...

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and a reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied. Today we honor the resilience, courage and contributions of generations of Black Americans, and reflect on the unfinished work of justice and equality.

More than half of the members in the NYC Council sent a letter to Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, the city’s district attorneys and administrative judges Thursday urging the city to investigate why a handcuffed woman was forced to give birth in a BK courtroom last month

Four years ago, I stood here to announce my support for building in Hallets Point hundreds of units of affordable and mixed income housing to tackle the housing and affordability crisis in our city.

"Our jail system operates four times less efficiently than most others....while programs that actually deliver safety remain underfunded. Rightsizing DOC by reducing vacancies is the kind of structural correction the moment demands, where justice meets fiscal sense." #CloseRikers

In this new era of city politics in FY27, Council Progressives are calling for Rentals within Reach, a smart investment that will provide over 20,000 of our struggling neighbors with stable, accessible housing and the wrap-around services they deserve

What's the #1 reason the rent is too damn high? Investors. COPA would put more and more homes out of investors' reach by giving nonprofits first right to buy most residential buildings. This is one of the most important Council bills in decades and a @nycprogressives.bsky.social priority.

COPA IS BACK! Today we rallied with Council Member @sandynurse.bsky.social to announce the reintroduction of the Community Opportunity to Purchase Act! 200+groups are calling for COPA, which will help preserve deeply affordable housing, prevent displacement & bring homes into community-control.

The faculty of St. John’s University deserve respect, a fair contract, and voice on the job without intimidation. We stand in solidarity with the union faculty fighting back against union busting from the administration. An injury to one is an injury to all.

Yesterday, our team had the opportunity to tour the Brooklyn Seltzer Museum! If you didn’t know, D37 is home to the last and oldest seltzer works in New York City. May is Small Business Month. Bring your friends and family and nerd out on all things seltzer science. Thanks for having us!

This is why we urge @mayor.nyc.gov & @council.nyc.gov to fully fund the NYC Against Hate Violence policy proposal, which maps out a plan to invest $26-30 million in evidence-based non-carceral hate violence prevention programs. Learn more: nycagainsthate.com

As many New Yorkers prepare to celebrate Lag B'Omer, Forest Hills residents faced despicable antisemitic graffiti on the walls of private homes, synagogues, and elsewhere. A swastika was even hatefully scrawled over a memorial for Kristallnacht survivors. This hate cannot stand.

I’ve been working with @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social since he was campaigning to create the Office of Deed Theft Prevention, and now, it’s a reality. We will continue to use every lever of power within City Hall to keep New Yorkers in their homes, and finally bring an end to Black displacement.

For too long, City government has stood idly by while homeowners fall victim to criminal deed theft. Those days are over. We're creating the City's first Office of Deed Theft Prevention. If you think you or someone you know may be a victim of deed theft, visit nyc.gov/deedfraud. @chiosse.bsky.social
