buccoball.wordpress.comBucs continue lineup overhaul with Marcell OzunaPhoto by Ian D'Andrea. After adding Brandon Lowe via trade and Ryan O'Hearn through a multi-year free agent signing, the Pirates had taken two promising steps toward overhauling one of the worst lineups in the National League — and it wasn't even Christmas. It was a promising start to an important offseason, one in which the Bucs were appearing to make good on their promise to invest in the roster.

Shoutout to Mackey for asking Ben about this today. Here is Ben’s response:

Jim Rosati@northsidenotch.com

From what I can tell, there have been four players who have been suspended for domestic violence to play in an MLB game since 2024. All four have been employed by the Pittsburgh Pirates during that timeframe.

Hmm

Posted this on both Facebook and Instagram and the stark difference in the comments section of each platform is STAGGERING. Hoo boy.

The Pirates added a potentially big bat on Monday in Marcell Ozuna. But it's an uncomfortable fit for the roster in more ways than one.

northshorenine.comBREAKING: Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Marcell OzunaThe North Shore Nine crew discusses the Pittsburgh Pirates’ signing of Marcell Ozuna, analyzing its implications for roster fit, payroll, and team dynamics.

9 Feb

From a pure baseball standpoint, I think Marcell Ozuna has a good chance to be the best hitter on the 2026 Pirates. This lineup looks…decent tbh. But why do they have to keep employing guys like this? On top of that, THIS is the guy they get to drive the final nail into Cutch’s coffin?

1) If they were willing to go higher, then why didn't they? 2) If they were willing to do a multi-year deal, then why didn't they? Honestly, this just makes the ineptitude of this FO even worse. Suarez did not want to come here and the Pirates have no one to blame but themselves for that.

Alex Stumpf@alexjstumpf.bsky.social

Pirates offered the same AAV for Suarez as what he signed for with the Reds (and were willing to go higher), according to a source. Sounds like Suarez chose a more favorable ballpark and familiarity w/ Cincy for a prove-it deal. Would have been 1/$15 but Pirates were willing to do a multi-year deal
