Politics, running, running politics from an ill-informed perspective. Keep my informed opinions out of this. I enjoy neo-pronouns, they/them and she/her.

The top placed Australians🇦🇺 at the World Major Marathons since their inception in 2006 Izzi Batt-Doyle becomes just the 5th Australian to finish in the top 6, after her Chicago🇺🇸 performance. The full list in comments ...

Chevron’s profit margin is among the highest in the top 100 corporations (in the ATO list). Average margin is just over 12%. Only corps w/ higher profit margins: a BHP Iron Ore subsidiary at 61%, Hancock Prospecting (Gina Rinehart) at 76%, and one Rio Tinto subsidiary at nearly 143%‼️

it really is striking just how many people have detailed and personal things to say in appreciation of helen haines. not sure i've come across a single boilerplate-style statement. (if those do exist they are clearly a minority)

I'd filed a Hanson/ Lambie cartoon for today but it seemed a bit tin eared with what's happened in Indi so I did a new, last minute one this morning. I had a few ideas about division & dark days but thought I'd focus on something that's bringing people together instead. Here's to Helen Haines.

"Mr Hauser said the central bank's liaison program and surveys showed there was "an increasing share of businesses who are thinking that, maybe, sort of 3 per cent, 3.5 per cent [inflation] is the new normal"." 3% *is* the reserve bank's inflation target!!! oh my god www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

abc.net.auRBA deputy warns inflation outlook 'materially worse' as next decision loomsAs markets put the chance of a rate hike in November at 42 per cent, Reserve Bank deputy governor Andrew Hauser warns of a "central banker's nightmare".

to celebrate Indigenous People's Day I'd like to highlight athletes, particularly runners many people have heard of Jim Thorpe and some Billy Mills but rarely mentioned Louis Tewanima of the Hopi tribe in 1912 set American 10,000 meter record 32:06 which held FIFTY YEARS (and imagine those shoes!)

I thought this might be a fun hate-watch based on @karagoucher.bsky.social 's throwaway comment on her podcast ("somehow Michael is the victim?!") ... But it's actually pretty distressing. To the extent that athletes got paid at all it was also at the expense of "vendors"... What about their staff?

"it was purely a capital problem", no problem with the product - uh... Yes. I think we could all run amazing track meets if we didn't need to secure the capital to fund it

The actual story here is that this guy promised athletes the moon (serious, serious cash), they performed, and... They still haven't been paid You would have no idea this thing is bankrupt from watching this interview!!

He's literally lying about how much he actually paid to athletes!? GST bankruptcy documents are public! Oh my god. "We were able to deliver on what we needed to do, which was get them paid." What????

Did he pay them to do this?! "Michael you are a remarkable survivor. You have such extensive business experience. Tell us about it" And what is going on with the seating arrangement

E.g. just heard one woman explain to others in her group class that she's a Souths supporter and thus duty bound to go for Newy today, this was not immediately logical to her audience

Small businesses complaining about this on social media is doing my head in. It's so annoying to see a price and later find out that wasn't the real price, because they're adding a surcharge for the vast majority of customers!! Just put your price up to reflect the costs, do it once, move on??

ABC News Bot (unofficial)@abcnewsbot.bsky.social

Surcharge bans are supposed to save consumers money but retailers say they're being forced to put prices up and are finding ways around the reforms.

i'm unreasonably annoyed by this. FIRST OF ALL, 3.3 pounds is about 1.5kg, i.e. a typical miche, which is a large bread but not monstrously SECOND, oh, you have to feed your sourdough every day? yes... that's what every commercial sourdough baker is doing www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

theguardian.comHow a $60 loaf of rye bread went viral in New York City: ‘It’s a conversation piece’Bread experts weigh in on whether the rye sourdough that bakers ‘feed every day’ is worth that much

Good rye *is* difficult, a specialty, and not all bread needs to be cheap, fine. But this is very clearly a status symbol situation and nothing to do with this bakery's supposedly unique process. ALSO rye flours aren't even hard to find in the USA! Make your own and fuck this place

in 2026, we are all the NSW greens

Tim Hollo@timhollo.bsky.social

Sending love to lovely @larissawaters.bsky.social for standing up with integrity when we needed her. And really wishing the Greens had direct member election of the leader. A contest over politics is what we need right now.

Imagine making podcast episodes about this when you could be debating the Wharfie Time debacle

NOBODY "BROKE" ANY STORY. IT'S FUCKING INSTAGRAM DRAMA ABOUT GAY PEOPLE. get the fuck over yourself!!!!

My god women's sport is unevenly distributed 😭 Approx one million AFLW games today (Friday) when there are so many other days when I need something to watch! Booo
