“I’m a trans man. What does the EHRC guidance mean for me?” 🏳️‍⚧️ Revisiting this explainer on a question many people have been asking. Save for reference and share with someone who’s been trying to make sense of it. 💛 #TransRights #TransMen #EHRC #EqualityAct #KnowYourRights

had this question a few times - usually in healthcare settings. once, hilariously, in A&E after i sprained my ankle. Mx has been my legal title since 2016 - over ten years. and i'll never not love it.

“Is Mx your first name?” 😅 A question I’ve actually been asked in court. Mx is a gender-neutral title, pronounced “mix”. From forms to everyday conversations, small changes in language can make room for more people. Does your workplace offer Mx? 🏳️‍⚧️

An unexpected HR invitation can make your stomach drop. These are the questions I’d ask before walking in. Save this for a calmer version of future you. Employment law in Great Britain. General information, not advice on a particular case. #employmentlaw #knowyourrights

Coming out should always be your choice. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Thank you to Fair Play Talks for including my thoughts in its National Coming Out Day feature. “Our identities are ours to share, not someone else’s to reveal.” Everyone deserves privacy, dignity and belonging, whether they’re out or not.

I’ve never been called a metronome before but I guess there’s a first time for everything! The other word is ‘convenor’ which I like as this job is only interesting because other people are interesting, and I love bringing people together. #barrister #lgbtq+ #advocacy #legallinkedininfluencers

Bullying itself isn’t a standalone cause of action, but workplace behaviour may engage other legal protections. If I found myself in that situation, these are 9 steps I’d take. Where’s the line between robust management and workplace bullying? 👀 #EmploymentLaw #WorkplaceRights #WorkplaceBullying

Which bathroom can I use? Will this room be accessible? Will this space work for someone like me? At the Thrive Summit, I spoke about how these small moments reveal the assumptions built into our environments. Inclusion can begin with design. #InclusiveDesign #Inclusion #ThriveSummit

9 THINGS I’D DO IF I THOUGHT I WAS BEING PUSHED OUT OF MY JOB 🚩 Responsibilities disappearing? Excluded from meetings? Sudden criticism? Before making any big decisions, these are 9 things I’d do to protect my position and understand my options. #EmploymentLaw #WorkplaceRights #UKLaw

The EHRC’s new services code shouldn’t simply be copied into workplace policies. Different legal relationships can engage different parts of the Equality Act. In employment, start with what the law actually requires and the most inclusive lawful approach. #EmploymentLaw #EqualityAct

BOOK UPDATE… 👀📚 A little behind the scenes from my recent visit to my publisher! It’s very exciting (and slightly surreal!) seeing everything starting to come together. Lots more to share about the book soon… 👀 #NewBook #ComingSoon #JKPBooks #Hachette #AuthorLife

TRANS PEOPLE ARE STILL HERE 🏳️‍⚧️ It’s been encouraging to see solidarity from colleagues and institutions across Europe at #ELLA2026. At a difficult time for trans people in the UK, that international support matters. How can we keep building solidarity across borders? #TransRights #Solidarity

What does a GRC actually mean after For Women Scotland? A trans person can now be legally recognised as one sex for some purposes, while treated as another under the Equality Act. Has the law created an “intermediate zone” of legal recognition? #TransRights #EqualityAct

Excited to be speaking at the inaugural European LGBTQ+ Lawyers Association (ELLA) Conference today! 🇪🇺🏳️‍⚧️⚧️ P.s. expert tip: big sunglasses on public transport = less chance of hate crime woo! #ELLA2026 #LGBTQRights #TransRights #HumanRightsLaw #NonBinaryRights

9 THINGS YOUR EMPLOYER MIGHT HOPE YOU DON’T KNOW 👀 Knowing your rights isn’t about looking for a fight. It’s about knowing your position and making informed choices. Which one do you think more employees need to know? #EmploymentLaw #EmploymentRights #WorkplaceRights

SINGLE-SEX SPACES: EXCEPTION OR RULE? The Equality Act starts with protection against discrimination. Single-sex services are exceptions that can apply in particular circumstances. Are we increasingly treating the exception as the default? #EqualityAct #SingleSexSpaces #TransRights

We lobbied MPs yesterday in Westminster. I spoke to Meg Hillier MP. I asked her what was being done to address the transphobic EHRC code. Well done @transsolidarityalliance and all volunteers for helping organise an important day. #transrights #ehrc #westminster #nonbinaryrights #intersexrights

The rollback of trans and non-binary protections should concern all of us. Minority rights don’t exist in isolation. If one group’s protections can be rolled back, others cannot assume their rights are permanently secure. Solidarity matters. #TransRights #HumanRights #Solidarity

ARE GRCs NOW MEANINGLESS? After For Women Scotland, a trans person with a GRC can be recognised as their acquired sex for some legal purposes, but treated according to biological sex under the Equality Act. So what is the function of a GRC now? #TransRights #GRC #EqualityAct

9 RED FLAGS I’D NEVER IGNORE AT WORK 🚩 A red flag doesn’t automatically mean your employer has done something unlawful. Employment law is highly fact-specific, so the context and circumstances matter. But these are 9 things I’d always pay attention to. What’s your biggest workplace red flag? 👀

TRANS PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE CONFINED TO THE SHADOWS I’ve heard from people who are now scared to go out in public, or are avoiding drinking water because they’re worried about using a toilet. Whatever the legal debate around the EHRC guidance, we can’t ignore its human impact. #TransRights #EHRC

Schedule 3 of the Equality Act permits separate or single-sex services in certain circumstances. But these are exceptions, not a blanket rule. The key question is proportionality and the particular circumstances. Are we losing sight of that? #EqualityAct #TransRights #UKLaw

Very happy to share that I’ve been shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution in DEI at the UK Bar by Chambers and Partners 🌈⚖️ A huge congratulations to everyone shortlisted, and to everyone doing this work across the Bar. #DEI #UKBar #LGBTQ #ProBono #Barrister

One irony of being an employment barrister? Spending your life advising other people about work while sometimes being terrible at taking your own advice 😭 9 reminders the legal profession could do with hearing more often. What would you add? And what’s your biggest workplace pet peeve? 👀

I spoke with Tom Nicholas about the purpose of the EHRC guidance. It is intended to help service providers navigate these issues in practice. But an important distinction matters: guidance can be taken into account, but it is not itself binding law. #EHRC #EqualityAct #TransRights

Really glad to have joined the board of the Good Night Out Campaign 💜 I am helping particularly on the legal side of the work, supporting the team as they continue pushing for safer, more inclusive nightlife. #LGBTQRights #TransRights #NightlifeSafety #EqualityLaw #GoodNightOut

“Is it actually ‘illegal’ for a trans person to use a different toilet from their birth sex?” No. It isn’t. Unless you’re doing something genuinely criminal like physically attacking someone! #transrights #equalityact #nonbinary #lgbtqrights #ehrcguidance

Shortly I will be asking YOU what information or legal tips you wish you knew on different topics for different chapters of my upcoming book, Queers Know Your Rights. Start thinking!!! 📸 Morgana Steele #bookwriting #queercommunity #transrights #queersknowyourrights
