Father, husband, climate change worrier, support Ukraine, sick of all the unnecessary war, violence and suffering, wishing people would be nicer to each other, worried about inequality and hyper-rich exerting an undue influence over society.

Good people are decrying MAGA, extreme-right and the super-rich by posting on X: owned and controlled by a super-rich MAGA righwinger... If all decent folks en masse moved to Bluesky, we could take back a little bit of control over our news feeds and reduce their influence. Just a thought...

The world is 700% richer than in 1970 but the average person is only 8% richer. Because the richest 0.01% are 4000% richer. We are all being robbed every second of every day, and it doesn't matter how much profit or growth there is. It will never reach you.

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps. McDonald's CEO raked in $20.5M in 2025 — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay. Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 958x the company's median employee pay. See the problem?

It's amazing that this isn't front page news every day, and that the democrats aren't bringing this up in every conversation. MAGA and Trump don't care about Americans, they are enriching themselves over your backs! (And screwing up the world as a side effect)

Thomson Reuters, which owns news agency Reuters, has signed a $125M deal giving ICE access to its databases of personal data. USA Today has partnered with Palantir to gain "actionable intelligence" on its audiences. The media should be opponents of Trump's police state — not collaborators.

As a new month begins, the skies are still light, but the soul is heavy. The darkness of Russia's collective character is evident wherever it treads, wherever it spreads murder, hate, colonial neo-nazism. It's Day 1620 of this💩in🇺🇦 And I've made a daily thread every one of 'em!

Day 1619 of Ukraine being forced to fight for its freedom, its very existence. Of course the war had been going on for 12 years and, having been a very small part of EuroMaidan, I don't forget that. But only since 2022 has the threat become existential. Here's Friday's daily🧵

Belatedly, but I made it for the daily thread on Day 1613 of the war started by Russia, but hopefully to be finished by Ukraine, to restore the (more) peaceful order + balance. A succession of nights with little sleep kept me out of action for a few hours, but ready to go now!

Corporate media continues to pretend to not know the difference between Democratic Socialism and dictator communism because they are owned by fascist billionaires.

Another example of the danger of inequality. In a true democracy all voices should count equally. However, this graph shows very clearly that selfish billionaire media tycoons have an oversized influence. Meanwhile the next heatwave has arrived. What world are we leaving for our children?

As Ed Miliband leaves his post as energy and net-zero secretary, a final tally: There have been an incredible 251 newspaper editorials attacking him and his approach to net-zero since the start of 2024 That amounts to two editorials a week, mainly in the Sun, Daily Mail, Times and Daily Telegraph.

Day 1609 of the war in Ukraine - and Russia. The aggressor is increasingly getting a taste of its own medicine. It's regrettable Ukraine's allies didn't have the will to force Putin to step back earlier, so the only way is for Russia itself to suffer. Here's the daily thread:

A new week begins and so does a new thread, covering all the events in Ukraine and Russia on Day 1608 of Putin's war of choice. Just 1,605 days behind schedule now and we've now completed two world cups since the full invasion. No sleep yet for me 'cos there's a lot of news...

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

It's kind of funny how accurately we can tell how many undocumented immigrants there are in a certain state. Makes one wonder what undocumented really means. And how much of a risk these people pose... (Hint: not very much)

Living without a car in much of America sucks. Given that, there are two options: 1. Give everyone a car (which will increase traffic and emissions) 2. Make it suck less to get around without a car (which will decrease traffic and emissions) I don't know about you, but #2 seems better.
