3 of these are new Inocybe species: • Inocybe albofusca • Inocybe communis • Inocybe lincoffii — named in honor of the late Gary Lincoff, whose passion for mushrooms inspired generations of mycologists.

This achievement is a wonderful reminder that citizen scientists continue to make meaningful contributions to mycology. Congratulations, Sigrid, and thank you for your dedication to fungal science! 👏🍄 #Mycology #Mushrooms #CitizenScience #Inocybe #Mycologia

One of the joys of studying slime molds is realizing that an organism only a millimeter tall can have extraordinary microscopic architecture. Beautiful spores. Elegant capillitium. Intricate fruiting bodies. Tiny doesn't mean simple. #Myxomycetes #Microscopy #SlimeMoldSunday

One of our favorite biology facts: A slime mold plasmodium is a single cell. Not a colony. Not thousands of cells. One enormous multinucleate cell that slowly crawls through the forest before transforming into fruiting bodies. Nature never stops surprising us. #Myxomycetes #Biology

Most people walk right past them. Slime molds (#Myxomycetes) aren't fungi—they're #amoeboid organisms that spend part of their lives as giant single cells before producing intricate fruiting bodies only millimeters tall. Once you start looking, forests become very different places. #SlimeMolds

❄️🍄 NYMS Weather Report: 100% Chance of Mushrooms (Snow Edition) 🍄❄️ NYMS goes on walks rain, sun, or snow—and today Seton Falls Park really leaned into the last option. The forecast teased us with a chance of snow… and then absolutely delivered.

We started out with crisp winter air and the quiet anticipation of flakes—and before long, the woods transformed into a full-on snow globe. While fungal fruiting bodies were keeping a low profile, conditions were perfect for the emergence of a rare and ephemeral species: snow mushrooms ☃️🍄

Huge thanks to Roman and Thursday for leading the walk, braving the elements, and keeping spirits high. Species list to come—once our fingers thaw. #NYMS #RainOrSnowWeGo #SnowMushrooms #SetonFallsPark #BronxNature #Mycology #WinterForay #FungalFun

Every species from our walks is logged, building a 17+ year public dataset on NYC fungal diversity. Our 2025 report covers drought, wildfires, invasive fungi, warming temps, and species new to NYC: www.newyorkmyc.org/2025-parks-r... #citizenscience #biodiversity #NYCparks #nature #datascience

This year's design is inspired by the fleeting presence of fungi. Appearing after rainfall, they reveal themselves as if by magic—much like the cyanotype printing process. The design uses this analog technique, combined with visual elements that echo impermanence and handmade artistry.
