The worst Ebola outbreak in the world is ongoing in the DRC and youβre not being informed about it in part because the reason it is spiralling is US politics. At least one person who was suffering from the disease crossed into Uganda by road and then flew from Kampala to Nairobi where he died.

Travelled to Makueni and Machakos this week. Got an awful BnB in Wote Town and now just checked into a really nice one in Machakos. Feels like a weight has been lifted.
Add on to that a few facts:
1. Humans are poor at specifying goals.
2. We can't predict the paths AI will take to meet the goals.
3. We keep adding capabilities to AI (Larger Models + Datacenters, more APIs to our systems, Internet Access, etc)
You don't need to believe that AI will ever be as smart or creative as human beings. Just that they are able to pursue an outcome - and they will do whatever they can to achieve that outcome.
An Australian user asked OpenClaw to book him into a gym class and move him up from 4th on the waitlist.
The agent figured out various exploits in the insecure gym software to delete other people from the waitlist and book classes weeks in advance before they opened.
This is a dog bites man story.
3 different baggage security checks and your ticket is checked 5 times before you board. Lots of smaller inconveniences make it all together a worse experience than most airports.
Also there's no seat selection in First Class. You're automatically assigned seats at purchase. So my wife and I were given seats across the aisle from one another. Luckily we found someone to swap with.
βThe climate crisis will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you are the one filming itβ. @PerthshireMags on the site formerly known as Twitter.
Did you know that women also play football? The Womenβs Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which also serves as the continental World Cup qualifier, starts tomorrow. Itβs going to be free to air in a bunch of countries - check with your national broadcaster.

βLast year, Microsoft made $101 billion in profits, got a $12.5 billion tax break from Trump & paid its CEO $96 million.
This year, itβs raising the price of an Xbox by $150 & eliminating 3,200 jobs.
Please donβt tell me corporate tax breaks create jobs. It never trickles down.β - Bernie Sanders
I switched from using a bunch of different webmail services to @thunderbird.net and it's a breath of fresh air. I always thought mail clients were old school, but I was really suffering.
Android 16 for the Fairphone 6 is here. Still slower than some mainstream brands, but much faster than previous android rollout. Hope they keep improving!
Random thought - what is the environmental cost of war? With reports of oil refineries being hit in Iran, Israel and elsewhere... How much CO2 is being just burned off with 0 utility?
There is the obvious human cost of direct casualties... But if the environmental damage is large enough that it measurably moves the needle on climate change.. then you can say that any war is killing us all slowly.
php://memory is a stream that lives in RAM.
php://temp starts in RAM, spills to disk after 2MB (configurable, see below!).
No tmpfile(). No temp directory. No cleanup.
Perfect for building files in memory before sending in #PHP!
Did you know the "maxmemory: " trick?
Israel is bombarding, literally bombarding, two Middle East capitals, Beirut and Tehran, killing 100s of civilians, and yet the US and UK media continue to portray Iran as the threat to the region.
Israel has nukes, but Iran is the nuclear threat.
We live in Orwellian times.
If you have a Dell XPS (or any Dell for that matter) check for bloat ware named "Killer Performance Driver Suite". It will absolutely destroy your performance and battery life - and cause your devices to have weird glitches.
Props to @scott.hanselman.com for naming the elephant in the room in big tech.
AI coding tools boost senior engineers but create challenges for juniors who lack context to judge outputs. Cutting junior hiring for near-term gains weakens the future pipeline. Weβll need apprenticeship-style paths.
How fast can you make it? Here's the 100-million-row challenge in #PHP: stitcher.io/feed/posts/7...
You have two weeks to participate. Thanks to PhpStorm and Tideways for sponsoring the prizes!

I'm seeing more people use X's article feature to share content.
I really wouldn't do that. Sure, they'll probably give you more exposure in the short term, but in the long term you want to stay the owner of your own content.
Start your own blog if you want to share things π
Iβm going to say this louder for the people in the back, the βAI productivity boostβ is that it helps you get to a first draft faster.
LLMs are not good enough for you to not review the output and just publish. If they were then your job wouldnβt need you anyway.
