Solidarity is not just symbolic, it’s a donor investment strategy. When Native leadership is trusted and resourced, communities thrive with solutions rooted in generations of lived knowledge. The path forward begins with shifting power, not just offering support.

The gaps in data extend far beyond philanthropy. When Native communities are misrepresented or undercounted across health, economic, and demographic research, policy and funding decisions follow suit. Accurate data is not optional, it’s foundational to equity.

Native-led nonprofits know their communities best. Our mission is to amplify their work, empower their leadership, build visibility, and shift philanthropy toward trust, respect, and accountability. 💛 Learn more at NativeWays.org or by visiting the link in our bio.

#DAFDay is just 1 week away! Let the data work for your Native nonprofit. This week, make sure your supporters know you accept DAF gifts and invite them to recommend a grant to your organization on DAF Day, October 8. #GiveNative #NativeNonprofit

Allies have a role but Indigenous leadership must remain at the center. Building our own power ensures that decisions reflect our communities, values, and futures. Self-determination is not optional.

What isn’t measured often isn’t prioritized. Without accurate tracking of investments to Native organizations and Tribal nations, inequities remain hidden and unaddressed. Transparent data is essential to building trust and directing resources where they belong.

Philanthropy must reckon with its history in order to transform its future. True equity requires acknowledging how wealth was built and committing to redistributing resources in ways that repair harm. Justice-centered funding isn’t charity, it’s responsibility.

Research without cultural understanding can miss the mark entirely. Tribal sovereignty, citizenship, and lived realities require more than surface-level inquiry—they demand partnership and respect. Acknowledging Native expertise leads to better data and better outcomes.

Too often, funding intended for Native communities never reaches Native leadership. When resources bypass Native-controlled organizations, self-determination is undermined. Use our Native Nonprofit List to identify and fund Native-led organizations.

Too often, Native organizations are asked to adapt to systems that were never designed for them. Equity means institutions doing the work to understand and reflect the communities they serve, not the other way around. Transformative philanthropy listens first.

Giving has always been woven into Native cultures. As the broader philanthropic sector works to advance equity, it must recognize that Native communities are not new to philanthropy; they are foundational to it.

On National Code Talkers Day, we honor the extraordinary courage, service, and sacrifice of the Native Code Talkers whose Indigenous languages became an unbreakable code that helped protect American troops and save countless lives during times of war.

Real impact starts with understanding who is closest to the solutions. When funders take time to learn from Native-led organizations, investments align with community priorities, cultural strengths, and long-term vision. Informed giving leads to meaningful change.

In a sector that moves billions each year, Native communities are funded at a fraction of our presence and impact. This disparity isn’t accidental and must be addressed. Equity in philanthropy starts with investing in Native-led leadership.
