The 0 to 1 work is some of the hardest work there is. I can’t believe I’ve been doing this stuff fo 25+ years. The biggest wins I’ve had though have been optimizing. Revenue, tech, whatever. Give it to me. I’ll make it fly.

Big day for hackers. PHP, NodeJS, TLS. Check the sites you host. Update security patches. Stay safe out there.

nightshade →home, for now@nightshade.technology

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.

Similar here. I just wanted to create value and exchange some of it for money. And then exchange that for time. Code just used to have the biggest distribution channel and was something hard so not everyone could do it. The game is the same. The pieces changed.

I've been quietly running a human vs bot test behind the scenes at an org with self-learning/self-updating techniques. Humans have been ahead so far. Still getting better too. But bots are now as good as humans were and still climbing. (Humans also using AI in background). The future is here.

These stats alone lead to questions, but there are more checks and graphs than this behind the scenes that I can't share.

The real tell that Bluesky feels like OG Twitter... I just had an extremely interesting real call with @bencurtis.com Interesting people. Interesting topics. Positive environment. Need I say more?

CTOs and founders: Think back to the last time you changed how your team ships code, whether that was review, process, tooling, or hiring. What happened right before you decided to change it?

Follow-up on PR reviews: Every founder who answered had already built their own fix. AI pre-review, bot-vs-human triage, review dashboards. One said the hard part wasn't the tech. Devs fought giving up human review even though they all hate reviewing. So who's still stuck with PRs waiting weeks?

Great answers so far. Now flip it: Whose team is still stuck? Where do PRs wait a week or more for review?

How are all you CTOs handling the increase in PR reviews?

Insta-purchase.

After more than a year of labor, my book 𝘏𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘴 has launched! It's all my best ideas -- and best writing -- on how to grow your company with your existing budget and team. And yes, I read the audiobook myself. :-) (1/5)

Literally showing up and being nice and helpful where people are mean (YouTube comments, Reddit, cliquey private groups) will win you customers. The bar is very low in some places.

Your SaaS finally has real cash in the bank. Now you're hunting. Would you still want it if the money weren't there? If not, be careful because it was the cash that created the itch.

I mean, really. AI is amazing. (actual travel data from 4 sources being turned into a map-based travel journal). Time in our RV around the US in orange, and flights in blue.

It syncs with a sidebar on the left (not shown) that has specifics, including vlog videos, notes, photos, links, and other resources from the time in the area or along the journey.

Now it zooms in/out with aggregated icons as numbers like the real estate apps for places where there is a collection of stops. So freaking cool.

Average and not human. We'd rather see a human make a video/blog/podcast imperfectly than an AI do it "perfectly", regardless of one's definition of "perfect." Just as we don't want computers play chess, even though they're all better than us.

With attention diminishing, building getting easier, and the rise of the comparison algos, the things we will say have quality will be those we spend an inordinate amount of time to produce. This is why you hate AI writing. Not because it's wrong. But because it's easy and average.

Outliers spend time on deliberate practice. This is why domain experts get better results from AI than generalists. We know quality when we see it. But doing it ourselves is not the same thing as seeing it in others. So commit yourselves to mastery. Go all in. Be obsessed. Practice deliberately.

The highest quality will continue to require mastery, even if AI assists. The expert still shoots an arrow at a target, just like a novice does. But the expert lets unconscious dynamic quality take over, after years of discerning, filtering, strengthening, repeating.

About to be 3 days offline. It's weird to be nervous/excited about not seeing the next AI feature get released over the weekend. Digital detox, here we come.

I took 3 years to switch out of startups, do consulting, and travel with my family. Sometimes a break is needed We did some stuff in Scotland. Watch the long form video if you need some rest. youtu.be/fr7off8Sov0 S3E8 - Living in Scotland for A Month

If you want to be great at something, you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Over-performance necessitates getting uncomfortable.

TIL that it takes 10 weeks (!!) to start building muscle with weight lifting. First 3 weeks are mostly repairing damage, so size = swelling, not muscle growth. Gonna say it again. I believe doing the simple, difficult, compounding thing over time is almost always the answer to "what should I do?"

If you haven’t done this yet are you even using AI bro? 🤣

Remember when too many browser tabs would crash your computer. Now it’s Claude Code terminals. Welcome to the new era.

This type of question has a lifespan of about 15 minutes now. Either I will build it in 15 minutes or someone else will. Back in 15. 🤣
