Looks like I'm in the hospital for a couple days. Pancreatitis. Do not recommend. 0 stars. Nurses and doctors have been great though.

Red River was a great movie and might have started the long Hollywood tradition of making an absolute masterpiece with an ending that's complete garbage. That pistol comparison scene with Matt and Cherry is worth the ticket price though.

Today's early morning movie is another viewing assignment from my son's film school. Red River. The 1948 film starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. Directed by Howard Hawks. I'm always surprised by how sneaky these old films can be hiding taboo themes of the time.

Whoa... I just realized Louis Riel was my 5th cousin on my father's side AND Sir John Carling was my 3rd great grand uncle on my mother's side. This is wild information if you know about Canadian history. Carling sat on the cabinet that had Riel executed in 1885.

Found out I'm 9th cousins with Madonna. . . Mighty thankful I never "read" her book now... Things could have been weird

I have a great uncle who was knighted by Queen Victoria! I had no idea there were so many interesting and important people in my family tree.

It's true. Cool.

So it turns out that my 5th great-grandfather was Ezekiel Solomon, who was the first Jewish fur trader in Canada and also the first Jewish settler in Michigan. His store was even discovered by archeologists and there's a recreation of it apparently? Can anyone in #Michigan confirm this?

Jim Carrey fandom was a huge part of my personality growing up and I just learned that we have a common ancestor. 15 year old me is losing his mind.

I've been digging into my ancestry and it should come as no surprise that I am distant cousins with Ryan Gosling. I know the resemblance in both looks and talent make it plainly obvious, but knowing we share 8th great-grandparents just makes it all click.

My son is finally going to film school just like his old man. I feel like I've grown a lot as a film watcher and appreciator through the years so I'm going to try to watch his viewing assignments. Starting strong with Battleship Potemkin.

Today's early morning movie is a Canadian classic, eh. Strange Brew starring Bob & Doug Mackenzie. This film's got everything. Beer, touques, hockey fights and beer.

Putting the Fasc in fashion.

this is the kind of design costume designers make to tell you who are the bad guys in a space movie

We're watching an episode of Fear The Neighbor that a friend of ours is in. It's pretty funny. Supposed to be in Texas but they have mild Canadian accents and there is snow everywhere.

I was hit by malware on Thursday. It has been a terrible process. I lost a lot of work in the process and the anxiety of it all is unbearable. Purely by coincidence, my MacBook screen also kicked the bucket on Friday. So it's been a bit of a tough weekend. Send good karma please.

Today's early morning movie is Cube (1997). I last saw this on a small CRT TV in my college dorm. I later found out one of my professors was the sound effects editor on the film.

I must have been told I was annoying as a child, because I never want to bother anyone ever for any reason even if it benefits us both. It sucks. Even posting this feels like I'm annoying whoever is reading this... Which is probably only 3 people. Sorry to bother you with this.

I love the part in movies when a guy is shaving and doesn't finish but wipes the shaving cream off his face and is magically clean shaven. It's neet...

Today's early morning movie is The Graduate from 1967. Did you know that Dustin Hoffman was actually 30 at the time (playing 21) and Anne Bancroft was only 36 but the transatlantic accent adds 20 years.

Look at this guy! He deserves some likes. He's a good boy. A little Silly, but good. #dogsofsummer #dogsofbluesky #goldendoodle

I don't like that there are people in life that feel the need to make others feel worthless. And how seemingly little comments can infest a brain and start convincing you they are right.

I'll be watching a very intelligent video essay and then the narrator will go and pronounce biopic as bi-opic and ruin the whole damn thing. Bio-pic! Biographical picture. Get it right

Hold on folks. We are rapidly approaching peak stupidity.

"If Canada will not manage its forests to prevent these fires, the United States will look elsewhere, and act on our own, to protect our people,” said a group of U.S. lawmakers. globalnews.ca/news/1196860...

The local Facebook groups are full of goobers complaining about local gas prices and it's pretty funny. The main advice is to drive two hours out of town to save 15¢/L. they want to boycott local gas stations. Lol. They should just get EVs and boycott all gas stations. They never mention that...

Nicholas Cage in Spider Noir... Oh dear. I think I figured out why Christopher Nolan won't call him back....

It's so funny to me that people will drive 40 minutes away to save 20¢ on gas. Absolutely clueless to the fact that they are burning gas to get there and back, not to mention wear and tear and the wasted time. Anyway, I love being able to simply plug in my car overnight.

Watching Citizen Kane again. I think it's been 30 years. I didn't know enough about filmmaking or the world in general back then, but now I can truly appreciate what went into this movie and why it's so highly regarded.

Gas up the road is $1.87/L Coincidentally that's about as much as it costs me to charge up 100km range on my EV at night. Go figure.

The family bought me a new TV for my birthday. It's awesome! But one of my favorite features is that it has quick animations when it turns on and off that replicate an old CRT TV turning on.

Not to brag, but last night my cat woke me at 3am because he needed a very aggressive petting. The kind where he forces his head under my hand and if I don't rub his head hard enough he bites the most tender part of my arm...

Sharing a May 19th birthday with Malcolm X and Ho Chi Minh means the anti-imperialist energy today is off the charts. Anne Boleyn also made history today in 1536, though her radical dismantling of the system was a bit more literal and involved a French swordsman.

Adobe apparently doesn't make enough money already and has to charge more for their plans. I hope they end up losing money because of it. They'll certainly lose my money.

I finally get my new car tomorrow. My first #EV. Poetically, it's from the same dealership where I bought my first gas car 25 years ago.

The Simcoe County district school board has money to run commercials on Prime, apparently. Not sure why this is a necessary expense.

Not too many people with EVs in my neck of the woods. Every day when I walk the dog I play a little game I call "count the EVs" and so far my high score is 1.5. (plugin hybrids are a half point)

We've had an induction stove for a number of years and every time I use it I'm amazed. Boils fast, but isn't hot to the touch. It's like magic. Definitely one of our better decisions in life.
