One problem with flying to conferences is that I inevitably end up with even more books than I started with. This is bad because then I have to carry them back to the airport. THIS TIME AROUND, I DIDN'T EVEN VISIT ANY BOOKSTORES, AND IT STILL HAPPENED, FOR PETE'S SAKE.

Here are a few reasons why you shouldn't worry too much about this week's PHP news. 1, that issue needs to be solved on the server level by hosting companies. It's not something that a website can fix too fix.

2, it is such a serious issue that almost every hosting company dealt with it in a few hours. 3, even in a worst case scenario, so long as you took basic steps like making sure you have daily backups of your website, it is really not that hard to de-hack your website.

Okay, now this is annoying. This morning I was filling out my profile in Whova in anticipation of going to WFC later this week. A few minutes ago I went back in the app to discover that Whova decided unilaterally to scrape my LinkedIn profile and add a bunch of shit.

I did not give Whova a link to my profile, nor did I ask for this. I have to assume this is an example of an AI being left alone to run amuck. That is annoying, but what really sucks is that Whova is otherwise a fairly shitty app.

Five years ago I'd be lucky to update once a month. Now I draw *two* comics and update weekly. And literally the biggest change is that I work less and sleep more. Quality demolishes quantity, hands-down.

Sen, but Spooky@dresdencodak.com

I don't know if this helps anyone, but the way I finally got into a decent work/life balance wasn't valuing my health or anything, it was realizing that I could produce higher quality art faster by drawing less (never more than 5 hours a day). Is that messed up? Probably! But it worked!

Do you want to hear something that never ceases to annoy me? It's when authors add me to their mailing list without my permission. This has happened more and more of late, and I really don't get why authors don't realize it's a bad idea to piss people off.

Beware of The Digital Reads (thedigitalreads.com). The photos of its staff are AI, and the employees' names are unverifiable. Many of the book covers on the site do not match actual book covers for the published books as available at bookstores. #bookmarketingscam #author #amwriting #booksky

I have a 3 and a half hour drive to go to an all-day event coming up. The event starts at 10 am. Should I drive the night before and get a room, or get up early that morning?

That phrase gives off the vibe of an event with lower standards, a higher tolerance for sloppiness and lack of communication, and other issues.

Kristen Lamb updates us on AI publishing scams. buff.ly/Y4ERWKX The latest trend in AI scams is author impersonations. For example, I got a letter supposedly from V.E. Schwab, and Matt Dinnaman (of Dungeon Crawler Carl fame) got a letter from Matt Dinnaman (no joke).

buff.lyAI Is Making Publishing Scammers Scarily ConvincingAI is making publishing scammers scarily convincing. The only thing that saved my bacon was a heavy dose of pessimism and KNOWING MY BUSINESS.

How crazy would it be to be an exhibitor at 2 conferences on 2 consecutive weekends? There's a 4 day gap between them, and a flight from Denver to San Francisco.

It's both shameful and deeply humiliating for what was until recently the world's most powerful democracy to be reorienting itself so that it can be more like, and closer to, a second tier criminal autocracy like Russia.
