Two new species of waxcap mushroom, Hygrocybe zhibaiensis and H. longchuanensis, have been described from Anhui and Jiangxi provinces in China, with one characterised by its greenish cap, and the other by its bright red cap with an orange-yellow margin. 🍄

🪨 A new lichen species, Acarospora lactea, has been described from Montana, Nevada and Utah, and the taxonomy of a group of North American Acarospora species has been clarified.

🔬 A phylogenetic reassessment of the fungal genus Tolypocladium has resolved taxonomic ambiguities, revealing that species traditionally grouped together are actually distributed across three separate families and require significant taxonomic revision.

🍄 Three new endophytic fungal species - Trichoderma wenshanense, Clonostachys grandispora, and Thelonectria chlamydosporia - have been identified from the roots of Panax notoginseng grown under forest-based ecological cultivation in Yunnan Province, China.

Three new toxic mushroom species, Inocybe taishanensis, I. draconoculus, and I. pretiosa, have been identified in warm-temperate and subtropical China. These findings reveal that the Inocybe asterospora group is substantially more diverse in East Asia than previously recognised.

Two new toxic mushroom species, Inocybe tumericolor and I. subaeruginascens, have been identified from China and found to contain dangerous combinations of psychoactive and poisonous compounds that can cause severe illness or hallucinations. Learn more about them: doi.org/10.3897/mycokeys.141.203741

🍄 A comprehensive study of medicinal fungi in China has revealed two new species of Ganoderma and resolved a taxonomic debate, clarifying that what Asian researchers had mistakenly identified as a European species was actually an entirely distinct Asian fungus: doi.org/10.3897/mycokeys.140.204190

🔬🌍 We were delighted to attend "Handling Evidence: a Cross-Disciplinary Perspective" by Dmitry Schigel at #TDWG2026. Schigel is an author and reviewer in our journal and presented how biodiversity communities can improve evidence handling by drawing inspiration from different disciplines. @tdwg.org

New fungal species Biscogniauxia barriae has been found living a "double life": as an endophyte in Douglas-fir needles in coastal BC, and producing stromata on dead hardwoods. Learn more about its ecological properties: doi.org/10.3897/myco... #fungi #newspecies

#Fungi sustain food, medicine & climate resilience, but #mycologists from low-income countries often can't afford to attend global conferences. The International Mycological Association is raising $30k for #IMC13 travel awards. You can help make fungal science more inclusive 👇 #gofundme #science

🧬The OPENBAR initiative (a @biogeneurope.bsky.social project) is launching two efforts to build a community #DNA #barcoding field guide: a 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 (𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝟏𝟓, 𝟏𝟒-𝟏𝟔 𝐂𝐄𝐓) and a 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐲 on lab realities. Open to researchers across the field. Register for the online forum: mbmg.pensoft.net/news/1456
