This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell. This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Replying to @mjsdc.bsky.social

Do you fly in airplanes? Drive on highways? File taxes? Have kids or elderly parents? Go to the doctor? Prefer not to be poisoned by toxic chemicals? Then you rely on the government services that Musk is hobbling. It is tragic that many Americans won’t realize this until those services are killed.

I've heard Trump tell the "Raizin" Caine story numerous times. It's incredibly telling about how he sees the military.

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

None of this has anything to do with effectiveness, or “lethality,” or promoting “warfighters," or any other buzzwords. It is praetorianism, plain and simple, and it is an assault on our military and our democracy. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Gold MiddleFinger

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Trump on DOGE: We’re going to go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is still there. You know that? We’re going to go into Fort Knox. You know about that? We hope everything is fine with Fort Knox. But we’re going to go to Fort Knox and make sure the gold is still there.

Highly recommend treating yourself to a subscription to The Atlantic. Many excellent and thoughtful writers on staff -- I especially like Tom Nichols!

One of the greatest tricks that Donald Trump and Elon Musk ever pulled is to convince millions of people that DOGE is about government efficiency. It's about narcissistic, resentful destruction: The Death of Government Expertise. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

First he’s the President, now he’s the Supreme Court!

Another reminder of the power of rightwing propaganda and the failure of mainstream media coverage: more people probably have heard about USAID ‘funding’ Politico (it isn’t) than about USAID funding anti-malaria programs which were just cut off and frozen by Musk and Trump.

“Done by 2 or 3 companies…”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on air traffic control: "We're gonna sit down & do a great computerized system for our control towers. Brand new...let's spend less money & build a great system done by 2 or 3 companies...when I land in my plane, privately, I use a system from another country...I won't tell you what country"

Anti-DOGE rally getting underway now outside the U.S. Department of Labor, where DOGE was reportedly scheduled to have a meeting today. Big turnout from AFGE, one of the federal unions in Trump’s crosshairs.

🚨Trump just gave Musk control.🚨 Tens, if not hundreds of millions of people across the country rely on the systems which are responsible for distributing Social Security and Medicare benefits, salaries for federal personnel, payments to government contractors and grant recipients and tax refunds...

Democrats shld make clear to voters that this gives Musk's private sector employees the power to stop checks to any individual recipient in the US (Soc Sec, vets benefits, Medicare) as well as examine their private financial info. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

I do not recall a 24 hour or one week news cycle with more disturbing news about the state of the presidency and the US government in it than those of today and the past seven days. January 6 was nothing compared to this. But make no mistake, this too is the gov't being torn apart by a mob of thugs.

Helpful advice for intervening to disrupt abusive and caustic behaviour. 1. Practice. 2. To the abuser, enroll 'we', "we don't do/tolerate that behaviour here". 3. To the person being abused "are you ok?" 4. It is always scary. See full thread for advice.

Just gonna flag that he does not mean this *evenly.* Trump’s government will take care of Trump’s people. Trump treats government spending as rewards he personally doles out to the deserving. (He also doesn’t care about hypocrisy or equal treatment under the law.)

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "We're looking at the whole concept of FEMA. I like, frankly, the concept when North Carolina gets hit, the governor takes care of it. When Florida gets hit, the governor takes care of it. Meaning the state takes care of it ... I'd like to see the states take care of disasters."

You are up to date.
