Child 1 is outgoing, thoughtful, and on his way to being a very good citizen. Child 2 is hilarious, hard working, good-hearted. And I did not touch AI to answer that.

Child 1 is also hilarious but concedes Child 2 is far funnier. Together, they’re a variety show. It’s especially snort-worthy while Child 1 is trying to watch film noir and Child 2 is banging his drums to Neil Young’s “Old Man” because he thinks Child 2 tries to act like he’s 50.

Now, in my private life I’m currently working on being a Fate. This requires listening to the various Hadestown cast albums and going “oooooohooooOOooooOOOooooooo” and “The first shall be first…” in my lowest register because I love singing contralto. WELL LOOK WHAT I JUST DISCOVERED

He actually called them “shithole” countries. I remember because we had A LOT of discussion about how to broadcast the comments: with bleeps? with warnings and then without bleeps? Describing what he said? We ended up doing all 3.

I tried to rein in my cursing a few years ago. I failed miserably, in part I believe because I am under too much stress so that other part of the brain is too frequently accessed. My go-to avoid-the-curse-words are “DANG IT!” and “GOD bless AMERICA.” They are the only two phrases I’ve rerouted.

All this being said, I do tally up Trump’s potty mouth slippages while listening. And his pronunciation gaffes. He’s 80. He’s a sloppy talker. It is getting worse.

He was always full of curses. He’s just letting them fly now. These words have function: they amp up emphasis. But if used too frequently, they lose their power. They also live in a different part of the brain. Stroke victims who’ve damaged the main language processing centers can still curse.

Most folks are not listening to entire Trump rallies. I have listened to many, on triple speed, since 2016. He is full of curse words now. “Shit,” “Ass” and I suspect he’ll start using “fuck” with more frequency in the near future. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/28/u...

More than 40 farmers and agricultural industry groups are warning D.C. leaders that the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration is affecting the nation’s food supply, hurting farmers and risking higher grocery prices.

“I’m in the stage of my life where I was like, This is bad. It needs to be fixed. But it doesn’t cause panic, at least for me. It did cause panic for a lot of people. But you know, it was more like, We have a situation, it needs to be solved, and this is how we do it.” Sounds Gen X!

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate...then were told to lay off. www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

A day trip to Charlottesville. A memorial on the UVA campus acknowledges the forced contributions of enslaved people. Names pulled from records: if not names, occupations. If not names, if not occupations, a dash for those unidentified. A lot of dashes.

And my art history training poured out. My son tolerated my lecture on Roman and neoclassical architectural. Doric! Ionic! Corinthian! Porticos! Rotundas! This is a temple OF LEARNING! Ideals for a new Republic! Also a carved marble statue will have a strut somewhere.

Some had full names. I told my son historical records show trends: basic Christian names shared with whites, but some enslaved people were named as you might name an animal. Some had classical names. Likely names they never chose themselves.

A real Four Seasons Total Landscape move.

A Republican super PAC trying to influence a crucial Senate race in Maine spent thousands of dollars running an attack ad in the wrong Portland, targeting voters thousands of miles away in Oregon.

Read that as “Paxton Said in Deposition That Donor Gave him Socks to Please God” which, can we all agree, would be a far more entertaining story.

Those khakis might not show physical dirt, but in their threads they carry the ghosts of 1000 farts, haunting us all because your father never taught you that.

Fascinating

The site's question-and-answer function confirms that President Donald Trump's name is in the Epstein files and that Democrat Joe Biden beat him in the 2020 election. It says federal officials did not find widespread fraud in that election, as Trump says constantly. https://to.pbs.org/4yZmkO8

Tidbit from The Washington Sun: “One House Democrat, granted anonymity to speak candidly about his colleagues’ hygiene, told The Sun that many male members who use the restroom by the chamber — generally, like men using any bathroom — don’t wash their hands.”

The Urologist’s phone system has an AI voice assistant, “Dash!” Or as my elderly father says “that girl.” Dash! is fucking insane. You have a question about an upcoming appointment. You give Dash! the information it requests, knowing damn well it won’t be able to help you, that you have to…

It’s not just Dash! It’s all the systems sold to various companies that purport to make it all so easy, but instead are grinding patients and consumers down with inefficiency and mistakes. Because they’re not here to serve us. They’re here to profit the companies who make the systems $$$.

Trying to explain to my elderly father - who never learned how to email and has a flip phone - that this is how our society functions (or not) is also a waste of time. He argues with AI voice agents all the time, thinking he’s arguing with real live scammers trying to sell him Medicare Advantage.

…go thru its fucking maze of LOOK WE SOLD THE UROLOGIST’S AI BECAUSE ITS MORE EFFICIENT bullshit only to HA HA HA find out Dash! can’t do diddly but waste your time. Dash! Has no option to “speak to a person/agent/associate,” and even when Dash! Computes or artificially intelligently determines…

Stupid stupid stupid stupid unnecessary and stupid and so awful for those women and the families.
