Just saw an ad for Toblerone that said “images generated with AI”. So that’ll be me not buying that again (my pancreas thanks me). But part of me at least applauds them for being honest. There are plenty of ads on the telly that clearly use generative AI without feeling the need to be transparent.

Peadar fuckin’ Tóibín

National Museum of Ireland@nmireland.bsky.social

Long before pumpkins became the Halloween tradition, people in Ireland carved turnips into spooky faces to ward off wandering spirits. This wonderful Ghost Turnip is on display at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, and it's guaranteed to stop you in your tracks!

Saw this poser in #Carrickmacross today and had to get a snap. Love seeing these. I’ll have to bring my SLR and telephoto lens next time because they always elude me when so equipped and this one just begged me to photograph it. The phone camera is good, but not that good #buzzard #spéirgorm

Flu and Covid boosters done. Probably should’ve done it *before* embarking on a long walk with the dogs. Sorry for stinking up the place, chemist lady.

Aontú promising the sun, moon & stars because they know they never have a realistic chance of being in government. For someone with a void where a sense of humour should be, Peadar Tóibín is a deeply unserious politician. Sounds like he’s proposing his version of DOGE. So nothing to go wrong there

Aontú has launched its pre-budget submission which it said is focused on helping families and lowering food and fuel prices

Fucking cowards. It’s bad enough they’re liars, incompetent and bone idle, but the absolute fucking cowardice of that lot. Aren’t public representatives supposed to represent the public? Away t’fuck to an Ed Sheeran concert you useless cunts.

Wow. Ireland are getting played off the park here. Kosovo very well organised. Ireland aren’t helping themselves with wayward passing and the lack of movement. We’re not coming away from here with a win. #KOSIRL #nationsleague #spéirgorm

I just signed the petition to #stopthegame - will you add your name too? No to a change of venue. No to forcing players to play a game they don't want to play. No to sportswashing. No to bending for genocidal murderers. my.uplift.ie/petitions/pe... @uplift.ie

Asked if he thought Trump's decision to ban a number of news outlets from the White House was anti-democratic or authoritarian, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he was "not going to embroil myself in that particular issue at this particular point in time." jrnl.ie/7170059t

This is a great idea. It’s shite that it’s needed but as long as there are victims in crime, they should always be prioritised.

My opinion of the lad was pretty low before this whole affair began and yet he’s managing to plunge to new depths. He’s not just complicit, he’s a colluder.

Pop Base@popbase.tv

Ed Sheeran has released a statement on Macklemore being removed from his tour for speaking up for Palestine: “I am not complicit. […] Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have [my own opinions], and it doesn't mean I don't care.”

I don’t get it. Episode 1 was enough for me to switch off. The protagonist was really whiny and annoying. I also didn’t find it funny.

Quirky horror series “Widow’s Bay” cleaned up at Monday’s Emmys, setting a new record for the most awards won by a comedy in a single year, as gritty hospital show “The Pitt” won again for best drama. jrnl.ie/7162878

Ed Sheeran… MOR centrist with less edge than unset jelly confirms his sell-out cred. I hope he’s reminded of that next time he tries to Oirish up his god-awful, offensively inoffensive act. To be Irish, Ed, you’ve to understand the plight of Palestinian people. Not throw your peers under the bus

Donald Trump couldn’t give a shite about a United Ireland. I can almost guarantee he’s never given it a second thought. What he is thinking about are the upcoming midterms and the Irish American vote. #spéirgorm

Not in, but beside the blue badge space. No blue badge. Selfish cunt. I’ve raised the issue with this Lidl store several times (my wife is a blue badge user). They’ve done absolutely nothing, so a shaming on the internet it’ll have to be @yplac.bsky.social #spéirgorm

I think Ireland would be a better country if we sprang for the real Johnny Vegas to be minister for transport rather than this Temu simulacrum

Quote Of The Day

Woof. Fairly intense rain & lightning here in Co. Monaghan (expect it’ll mean my internet will crap out for 3rd time in 4 days). When will councils realise speed bumps, aside from not being a disincentive for people actually speeding & being bad for the environment, also cause localised flooding?

As long as I can remember, Richmond Road has not been fit for purpose as a driver or pedestrian (went to school on Gracepark Road and later walked every day from Harts Corner to Fairview just to get my bus to college, often carrying an A0 portfolio case, so I know!)

The Journal@thejournal.ie

Residents of Drumcondra's Richmond Road closed their road to traffic for an hour this morning in protest against what they say is the city council's inaction to tackle the high volumes of traffic that transit the road, and the issues that accompany this jrnl.ie/7128252

One way systems tend to be annoying, but if ever a road needed it, this would be it. Then widen the footpaths and it might work. Also, A0 portfolios are zero craic when you’re a shortarse, and/or there’s a crosswind.

The smell of fucking muck spreading permeating through my house right now is absolutely nauseating. I couldn’t open a window even if I wanted to. It’s one side of rural living this jackeen can’t & won’t ever get used to, not that I do live in the country here in Castleblayney’s buzzing metropolis

New species of butterfly for me - the Painted Lady. Snapped in the Eco Meadow in Carrickmacross (which is a fantastic wee place for a stroll). The iPhone camera works a treat for these kinds of shots too. #butterfly #carrickmacross #spéirgorm #wildlife

In the days of MySpace I used to make flyers for standup shows with a thing called “Blingee” and they sucked and were garish but I had fun making them & they had a little panache & they worked.
