As a pedestrian, I'm begging you drivers to stop doing that thing where you stop and wave me across the road, flicking your hand like you are wafting your dashboard. Just drive your car properly and I'll cross when I think it is safe, not when you want to be benevolent.

The main reason being you guys have such little sense of *my* safety. Often indicating that you want me to cross at a busy junction when cars are coming in a number of directions. Then you get pissy because I don't want to walk into oncoming traffic. So thanks, but we're cool.

Christ, Clive Myrie's Mastermind monologues are awful, made doubly worse by the fact you can see he's reading the autocue.

Many live artists are now pivoting to stand up as a way of standing on a stage and talking about themselves. I'd let it pass if they were being funny, but dear god that's some mild comedy. If their jokes were a spice, they would be flour.

More seriously. In the 90s, a larger proportion of internet users were familiar with the workings of the internet itself. Many learnt how to code html, even at a base level. The fact a cyber security journalist doesn't know what php is is indicative of how we treat technology as a product.

PHP isn't some weird obscure bit of the internet. The fact this is from a "cyber correspondent" is rather worrying.

The quality journalism only the BBC can provide

The fact there is an overlap between people who complain about paying the license fee and those complaining about the cuts to the BBC is a significant problem.

The fact that the clock on Lancaster's Town Hall is persistently five minutes slow tells you everything you need to know about this place and our attitude to governance. Just a little behind the rest of the world.

Is there any phrase more detestable and corporate than "arts leaders". A phrase that suggests a class division by implication of "followers".

Seems like every middle class artist at the moment is trying to launch a magazine. And yeah, I kind of like that. The vanguard against digital slop is wealthy kids with an inflated sense of their own importance and a safety net for inevitable failure. I've become an enemy of my enemy person.

New heights in facile copy writing from the guardian. Someone got paid to put these words in this order. Meanwhile a begging screen pops up asking if I'll pay. No button for "no" just a "maybe later" like a skeevy sex pest. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

theguardian.comTourists are avoiding York, my home town – but I know how to get them backAre they put off by the hen parties, the tea rooms or the £5-an-hour parking? No matter. It’s time for my bold new approach ...

Ross Kemp is coming across as the sort of bloke who makes sure you get put in a taxi at the end of the night and gets you to give him three rings once you make it home. Three Rings Kemp.

Starting to see the term "neurobasic" thrown around as a mild slur, and if that isn't the horseshoe theory in action...

The more humanity I encounter, the harder it is to have any faith in it. That's the problem with the modern age.

And you want the real horror story of all this? Wait until we are choosing between you having drinking water and a machine having it. It will have the same rights as you. Good luck, thirsty folk.

A lot of the current discourse around AI is positioning it legally... Calling it "super" rather than "artificial". Having Claude ban users from treating it with "cruelty". They are trying to get it so it has the same rights as a human.

Which is a US thing. Most of the protection US companies have are from being treated, legally, the same as a human entity. It devolves the blame from the company to the entity. Personhood.

Meanwhile, the same administrations that are pushing for this seek to dehumanise actual humans, whether at home or in conflict zones abroad. This... The control over what is human and what is not human... This is the paradigm we are crossing into.

Posted this elsewhere and got accused of it being "in really bad taste". You know what else is in really bad taste? A state live streaming an execution.

Pretty sure this will be the 7up red dot advert of the century. Go America!

Personally, I'm in it to see which American companies that previously had rainbow branding and 'diverse' actors in their commercials decide to advertise during the live execution.

Reader, they fucked it up.

It seems to me that the Greens have provided something lacking in British politics in the last few decades, which is a reason to vote *for* something as opposed to a reason for voting *against* it. Labour lived off people desperate to keep the Tories out, and they just didn't realise it.

Real talk. As a modernist (or maybe neo-modernist) artist of some renown, I know that no matter how close to the sun I fly, I will never feel the heat as much as the Tesco Value range of the 2000s

If it is *artificial* it can't have the same rights as humans. If it is *super* then it can be protected as a human like intelligence and given copyright protection and other such money making rights. This is the play.

About to give a lecture about integrated visual theatre design in Vermont whilst riddle with "American COVID". I feel like Frodo when he puts the ring on.

Currently reading Techno-Negative: A Long History of Refusing the Machine. It's a good read. A little academic. ...But it does highlight why AI is taking over things like art and music and not things like rubbish collection or sewer maintenance.

I love that Trump's relationship to Musk highly correlates to how close the US is to a national vote. Wonder why.

The longer I hang around the more convinced that everyone is just waiting for their turn to be the villain.

Can someone smarter and better informed than I tell me what just happened to the Green Party? Have they just kicked themselves back into obscurity again?

The fundamental misunderstanding of our time is the conflation of technology with science and progress. Science and progress makes our lives better, not technology looking for purpose. Technology will not save us. Science might.

And yet those techno-fascists are inherently anti-science. They push a specific truth unmoored by fact. They spin a yarn based on subjectivity. They talk a good game about making things better, but ultimately they only exist to push trinkets that make things worse.
