More like Zohran Mamp(doom)i amirite

Recent reports about AI and its potential to end humanity are frightening, Mayor Zohran Mamdani told Hell Gate Monday, stopping short of laying out a City plan to tackle threats. More on what NY's elected officials are doing in lieu of federal action here: hellgatenyc.com/mayor-mamdan...

I know @nickocchiuto.bsky.social asked me about how historians are handling a similar dynamic to what was going with the sociologists in ASA and @soc4pal.bsky.social I’m not a historian (an ex-MLAer and nothing more), but there’s this:

Stacy Fahrenthold@sfahrenthold.bsky.social

The American Historical Association hired a lobbying firm to help silence member advocacy on Palestine. In this essay, Adam Rzepka covers @historians.org's relationship w/ Thorn Run Partners, its deep ethical conflicts, & the advocacy crisis AHA has thrust upon us. www.chronicle.com/article/a-sc...

Is there a single story editor who doesn’t slap the “hate on a Muslim today” sign as they enter the office each morning?

Twenty-five years after the mayor of New York City became the champion of America's grief and resilience at the time of the 9/11 attacks, families of those killed are split on whether the current mayor should attend the annual remembrance. https://cnn.it/4zkKYdc

Imagining “we passed Medicare for All in my home state of New York by passing the New York Health Act in 2027. Now let’s pass Medicare for All of America.”

Day in District POV: Come with me as I meet with Dr. Helen Arteaga, New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, to develop a strategy to protect and expand health care in New York City.

Looks like we didn’t have to wait until November for these takes to start coming out. The point of all that SuperPAC spending was not to have Stevens lose by single instead of double digits. It was to have her win. And it failed.

Cue November: “He won.” “But if he had moderated on Palestine, he would have won by more!”

I guess we have to wonder about whether the humanities and social sciences are too political now that we’ve seen with NSF and NIH that there are no hard or health sciences without politics.
